when they talk about preorders in japan they always are talking about retail preorders. I've never seen them actually speak about consumer preorders but we get a ton of information about retail preorders. The retail preorders in Japan extremely important. A shipment way below demand could actually cripple the sales of a game. Usually they are a good judge of what the demand is for the game.

 so according to these datas we could imagine that MGS4 pre-orders WW are close to 1 M ???

not bad when u consider some people (majority ?) dont pre-order their game

165k preorders 3 weeks before the game releases is good. It is not like 90% of the people who buys the game preorders it.

300-350k is a minimum for MGS4 in first week in Japan.
MGS4 in USA will sell not less then Wii fit on it`s first day.

Really, in total MGS4 will sell over 1 mln. WW on it`s first day. 2 mln, by the end of week, maybe 3 mln. =)

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.


Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

 Yes!!!!

But this is retail preorders, right?? If it is, probably the number will be a little lower on launch day... Like SMG...

Wow, this makes me wonder the fate of the PS3 in Japan. Three weeks before MGSs release and we have ~165,000 preorders? Three weeks before MGS4 and the PS3 moves less than 7,000 units in the country?

Christ Almighty, the PS3 is approaching 360 territory in Japan. I never, ever thought I would see this.

 When MGS4 releases the PS3 is going to sell like 72K a week for a long time... or something.
