I wasn't saying that these games wouldn't sell at all, or that the games wouldn't move systems, but I think people have to be realistic on the type of impact these games will have.

If each of these games has a distinct group of gamers who bought the game on the PS2, they were each willing to buy a PS3 to play the next iteration of the game, and none of them have currently bought a PS3 yet the total sales boost the PS3 would see is 5 Million units; this sounds like a lot of units but all three assumptions used to make this number are obviously false. The likely number of systems purchased for these games is in the 1 Million unit range which means the total userbase for the PS3 may be smaller than the number of copies of Final Fantasy X sold on the PS2; meaning Final Fantasy XIII will likely sell poorly compared to its PS2 counterparts.

And if the title of the thread is "PS3 not doomed in Japan" does that mean its assumed to be doomed everywhere else?

Just relax, and enjoy your time with your PS3, and give up on it becoming number one.

Just to comment on that Famitsu Most wanted list. Final Fantasy 3 Remake for the DS outranked Pokemon D/P and Pokemon outsold it 10 fold. That alone should comment on it's accuracy and how skewed it's voter base is.

I also can't find evidence of Wii Sports or Play being on that list. And they have obviously sold better then many of the titles on there including Gundam Musou.

My point is it's hardly worth noting the Famitsu list when it comes to sales figures as they have proved to be nothing more then fluff. 

 I don't think the PS3 is "Doomed" But there's a lot of space between doomed and a big success. As for the list, First off we can issue the standard "Famitsu does not equal Japan's sales" statement. The best way to illustrate that is that the Famitsu top 10 (or 20) is rarely 80% DS titles. But also lets look at that list.

1. Dragon Quest IX - DQIIX was the PS2's highest seller in Japan.  So the PS3 won't be getting a continuation of the PS2's biggest game. 

3. Biohazard 5 - It'll be on the 360 as well. YES, I KNOW! the box is doing miserably in Japan, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is likely to move box's as well as stations.

 On the whole, the list shows more PS3 games than any other system, but it's not the type of domination we probably saw in the last gen, where PS2 was really the only console worth talking about, and the Cube picked up the scraps.

The PS3 is as doomed as the PSP is. That is, it will still sell well at some point in the future - and end up quite respectable in its own right - but it will never catch the cheaper console that is leading sales at the moment. 

I see that Famitsu is read by gamers which mean it miss the vast majortiy of the wii customers.

Exactly like having the top 10 most wanted movies from Famitsu reader won't mean much.
