ioi doesn't copy NPD numbers, but he does use them as a source to fine tune his numbers

Adjustments are indeed a smart, I never said they weren't or even implied it. But that doesn't mean you make adjustments to your data based on something you think is wrong.
Lots of analysts have tons of data about the stock market and lose money for their clients and themselves every day because they were wrong...if you had cause to believe they were wrong about a particular investment you wouldn't invest in it even if you did use their conclusions (drawn from their data) before.
Aside from that there are a lot of sources and reasons to make adjustments to begin with, so I'm not sure why people single out NPD.
