Funny how they're acting like they're creating some sort of god-send drum set when they're building THE SAME EXACT KIT FROM DRUMMANIA!

Did the home version use the drum kit? Seems weird I hadn'theard of it before if it had. If not this is no worse than any other over zealous comments made by developers who are simply bringing old experiences to new markets.

It's the same setup as the arcade version...Same setup (2 crashes, 3 toms/snares, 1 foot pedal)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

you can say the same thing about rock band drums too then

does anyone know how much the price of guitar hero will be raised? will they be able to do it cheaper than rock band? imo, the price would have been an important aspect.

If you own GH3, it should be cheaper just because you already have a second guitar.

Other than that, I would expect they don't want to get into price wars with EA.

One of the questions people have is whether Harmonix will continue to make the superior product. Harmonix started guitar hero, made Rock Band, and began the best beat-based games like Frequency and Amplitude.

Guitar Hero looks like it may be improving, to an extent, because they're beginning to use fewer bad covers, etc. Hopefully we'll have some really good competition.

Ya Know, I've been hearing this a lot, and the truth is...

HARMONIX DIDN'T CREATE GUITAR HERO

 (Completely) OMG I said it...

If you've ever been in an arcade, you might have seen GUITARFREAKS by KONAMI. Harmonix bought the rights to their product, added 2 more fret buttons, and made it into Guitar Hero.

My Point is that Activision has every right to "Copy" (Improve) considering they boutght GH, just like Harmonix bought GF. If FACT, RedOctane has had all sorts of Copyright, like Drum Hero and others, before RockBand and GHIII. It's even in game informer: Adding instruments is the next logical step.

Also,

The GH4 Drum Kit >>> The Rockband Drum Kit

I have been a guitar hero fan since the first game. But since harmonix left I don't like the direction the franchise is going. It is suppose to be about playing guitar not drums and why should they add a mic.I think I will buy rockband and stop buying any future guitar hero games,it's obvious activision is just milking the franchise. I expect every future game to start declining on score and start becoming repetitive and a new installment each year.I am really dissapointed with the direction guitar hero is following =(

Activision's "Guitar Hero" to get drums, microphone

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Activision Inc (ATVI.O) is adding drums, bass guitar, and microphone to its popular "Guitar Hero" video game, a move aimed at winning away fans of MTV's rival musical title "Rock Band."

"Guitar Hero World Tour" will include the ability for two groups of four people each to compete online, as well as let players compose and play their own music, Activision said on Thursday.

The game will feature songs from bands such as Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime, with every song being an original master track, unlike past games where many of the songs were cover versions.

Due out in the fall, the game will mark a new direction for the "Guitar Hero" franchise, in which players push colored buttons on a plastic guitar-shaped controller to match notes on the screen.

"I certainly think it takes the edge off 'Rock Band'," said Mike Hickey, an analyst with Janco Partners. "What's 'Rock Band' going to do now, add a flute and banjo?"

Activision's money-spinning franchise got its first real competition last November when Viacom's (VIAb.N) MTV unit launched "Rock Band," which featured drumming and singing in addition to guitar playing.

The "Guitar Hero" series has raked in more than a billion dollars for Activision and has helped drive a 72 percent rise in the company's stock over the past 12 months.

That compares to virtually flat performance in the shares of Activision's top rival Electronic Arts Inc (ERTS.O), which distributes "Rock Band" for MTV.

Shares in Activision were up 19 cents, or 0.6 percent, to $32.82 in late morning trading on Nasdaq.

Activision did not say how much the new game will cost. Last year's "Guitar Hero 3," which came with one wireless guitar controller, sold for about $90. "Rock Band," which came with one guitar, a drum kit, and a microphone, sold for $170.

"World Tour" will be the third "Guitar Hero" game coming out this year.

Next month will see the launch of "Guitar Hero Aerosmith" focusing on the best-selling American rock group, as well as a portable version called "On Tour" for Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS) popular DS handheld device.

"Guitar Hero World Tour" will come out in versions for Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O) Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii, and Sony Corp's (6758.T) PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 consoles.

You are so upset that Guitar Hero included drums and a mic you are going to buy Rock Band...

That has to be the worst logic I have ever seen. Clearly you are just being blindly loyal to a developer. That is not a bad thing, but call a duck a duck. There is no good reason to bash Guitar Hero having more instruments while praising Rock Band having more.
