Federal court rules against military gays policy

SEATTLE (AP) -- The military cannot automatically discharge people because they're gay, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday in the case of a decorated flight nurse who sued the Air Force over her dismissal.

The three judges from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals did not strike down the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. But they reinstated Maj. Margaret Witt's lawsuit, saying the Air Force must prove that her dismissal furthered the military's goals of troop readiness and unit cohesion.

Worst policy ever.

So the military has the lowest recruitment numbers ever and is struggling to fight a war the public doesn't support, and they have the audacity to kick people out because they like THE WRONG KIND OF LOVE????????

Fucking balls. I blame Wii Jesus.

@Rubang.

Yep, something ridiculous like 30,000 people have been kicked out because of it.

Holy fuck. Imagine if I had my own army of 30,000 gays! I'd get some laws changed in a hot second. I really hope they're starting their own secret gay army to fix the bullshit laws that won't let them protect the country they want to.

I have no problem with Military members who happen to be gay...my only issue is with those who are gay and happen to be soldiers. The distinction being I don't view sexual preference as the sort of character defining trait that require it to be part of your title. You don't hear people saying "I'm a straight fighter pilot." so why should we have "Gay Fighter Pilots"? Why can't we just have fighter pilots?

If you join the military to do your duty then you are a patriot no matter what your sexual preference. The only issue I have is with the folks who try to make it an issue..whether they are the gay person flaunting it or the homophobe freaking out about it. It just has nothing to do with fighting for your country in my mind.

To Each Man, Responsibility

homophobic discrimination is as primitive as racial discrimination.
No form of discrimination should be tolerated.

America is run by morons - confirmed.

 I agree to be honest. However gay people shouldn't be fired just because they mention that they are gay. A straight soldier might show somebody a picture of his partner, why can't a gay soldier do the same?
