Forums - Gaming - Hub worlds. Like, or Dislike?

What do you think of hub worlds? Do you like them, or not?

Would you rather play the levels consecutively, like, one after another, like the Sonic games on the Genesis, or would you like to have to revisit a world, between the levels, like the Mushroom Kingdom of Super Mario 64?

The Mushroom Kingdom (Peach's Castle) in Super Mario 64 was a bit small. I prefer huge hub worlds like Grunty's Lair in Banjo-Kazooie. The only good 3d Sonic game, in my opinion, had a hub world (Sonic's Adventure). So we could say I like them.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

Peach's Castle, Super Mario 64.

End of argument. Delfino Plaza and Isle of Hags receive Honourable Mentions; Rosalina's Observatory receives a Dishonourable Mention.

I don't have a problem with hub worlds. If you want to go straight through a game, just don't explore the hub world.

But wouldn't it be funner, if they never existed? I mean, what do you prefer? Playing the levels consecutively, like the classic Genesis Sonic games, or having to wander around, getting lost, in the Sonic Adventure hub world? Let me know. It's important for my review. I don't want to diss hub worlds, if they're good.

I honestly like hub worlds^^; I mean, as long as you have a general idea on where to go for the next level. I like exploring most hub worlds :3 just kinda wander around and the like (as long as I know where to go when I wanna get farther in the game)

Shouldn't your review be your opinion not ours?

 haha, i was gonna say...

but i do enjoy the discussion.

Would The overworld map in like, Super Mario Bros. 3, and World, count as well?  Because I really enjoyed that.  Super Mario Worlds was all encompassing, but Super Mario Bros 3 was limited to the world you were in, but I guess it still counts. I think the overworld maps of Super Mario Bros 3 added so much to the game

Hub worlds rule. Makes it feel more natural.

I prefer hub worlds. They help to generate a sense of freedom and choice. Take the GTA series for example, for which the hub world is the city itself. It wouldn't be nearly as successful if it followed a linear mission structure without the side attraction that exploration of the city affords.
