MS bought some of the early theoretical ones.

But the 360 breaks, so.

EDIT: that's a lot of upcoming exclusives! Plus, you could also play Persona, Disgaea 2, that recent space fantasy game, and then indeed most of the PS2 rpg library, if you have BC.

so people are not going to play blue dragon or lost oddyyssy because the 360 breaks?

Alot of people in Japan didn't seem to mind.

Depends what you mean by a lot. If a lot means, "a few," then yeah.

Blue dragon: 80,348 units sold on the first four days of release in Japan. Many brought a 360 especially to play it.

Now, i wouldn't call that a few.

But yeah, i commented the first time because , it only matters about the games!

Stop falling back on RROD because it's old news.

They even have a Blue Dragon anime show or something in Japan too.

0.48 million WW.

Only games matter?  Funny, I thought ability to reliably play them would matter, hence my little jab.

dude, i didnt hide them

I don't even know, its weird, everytime I walk into my Gamestop's or Best Buy's. I either go straight to the Xbox 360, PS2, NDS, PSP isle. I'm kinda disgusted at the moment with the PS3 selection.

I mean its getting there but the Playstation brand use to be...ummm...RPG console. Now that there isn't a healthy dose of RPG's, its just a plain ordinary console in my hands.

Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, White Knight Story needs to release ASAP, before I start tripping!!!!!!

RPGs cost a lot of time and money to make. Everything being in high definition doesn't help this one bit.

The Western variety is closely related to PCs, so HD console ports are very likely to keep coming. Bioware, the most important developer, being bought by EA probably means all of their future stuff will be at the very least ported by a secondary team, and probably made multiplat to begin with.

A lot of games of the Japanese variety is on the way, but low PS3 sales and huge development costs are probably going to scare most publishers away. Currently everything seem to be heading to the DS (ultra-cheap, high sales) and 360 (bought by MS?), but the Wii should take a lion share of those when its supremacy becomes even clearer. To put it bluntly, virtually every platform on the market is better for making jRPGs on than the PS3, and the only reason there are so many in production is that publishers failed at prediction who was going to be on top this gen. There's a bunch of stuff too far in development to not release like FF13, but don't hold your breath for sequels, unless they do really, really well.

Square Enix and Level 5 are willing to be developmenting games for the PS3 since they know that their games will sell purely on name recognition

Level 5 develops for the ps3 for the same reason they developed for the ps2 and PSP - because Sony pays for development and publishes the games. :P

Every Level 5 game aside from Dragon Quest VIII/IX and the Layton series were paid for and published by Sony.

RPG's have always taken forever to get released on a Sony console. How many good RPG's were on the PS1 before FFVII? How many good RPG's were on the PS2 before FFX? The answer is not many.

A lot of developers are probably aiming to release some PS3 RPG's just after FFXIII hits.
That's really unfortunate if true because it's taking longer to get FF XIII out than it ever did to get FF VII or FF X. It basically means we may not see much of any RPGs until almost the midpoint of this console lifecycle for PS3.

At some point we'll see dark cloud 3 too

I like technology when its moving forward..

PSN: methys

Even though I didn't write that, I truly believe that some of my posts here or on gamespot were the inspiration for that through several degrees of seperation.

I wish some of you FFVIII lovers could play Lost Odyssey for a minute, lol. It's SO good it has renewed my interest in this subject as in:

I WANT RPGS!!! NOW! Jrpgs, too, not not Mass Effect(which is awesome too, lol) but from Japan!!!

Lost Odyssey is really good. Really, really, good. It's not Final Fantasy VIII good, but....it's in the same ball park, and it's right up there with the series average. It really made me redefine what I expect from a next gen game of any genre, and the short stories moved me emotionally like few games do. I'm not finished with it yet, but I'm far enough in where I can say, if a game can make you tear up, LO will make will meet that level of emotion. Don't miss is, this is the best new JRPG series since TWeWY or Symphonia.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
