If 360 core was only $200, who would still buy a Wii? BTW, yes I am just trying to tick a couple fanboys off...... All in all that would help me, b/c then I could get a Wii for $150(which is my pricepoint) |

I think you're basing that opinion on the theory that most former Ps2 owners are jerks like you.* A great game is a great game. And Halo is a great game. Furthermore it's one of the biggest games sales wise of last Gen, as it will be again this Gen. One of the other biggest is Grand Theft Auto. And this time around the 360's got Both. It'll be tempting to a lot of people. Of course the PS3 also has must have games. so does the Wii. But not even you can deny that the GTA effect will help the box as well as the station.
*No really, don't be a jerk |
So former PS2 owners dont care about playing the next big FF game or MGS. Whats about the 25 million Gran Turismo sold last gen, those players will just forget about GT. Get real.
Did i say GTA wont help the 360, hell no.
But huge majority of PS2 owners sure as hell wont choose Halo over GT/FF/MGS/GOW, 1 great game vs 4 great ones, real tough choice.

People who will buy a PS3 next year for Gran Turismo 5 will be likely to pick up a PS3 and GTAIV this year, at the same time people who buy a PS3 for GTAIV will also be likely to pick up a copy of GT5, and there will also be people who will buy a PS3 simply because both games are gonna be available for it.
Point of view is everything!
on PS2
| Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | Take 2 | 0.41 | 7.89 | 6.58 | 14.88 | |
| Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec | Sony | 1.89 | 7.11 | 5.84 | 14.84 |
just to show common interest ;)
on Xbox
| Halo 2 | Microsoft | 0.11 | 6.39 | 1.67 | 8.17 |
| Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | Take 2 | 0.00 | 1.26 | 0.67 | 1.93 |
I know market saturation, etc, plays a factor, but GT5 is a driving force and if someone knows that want it, but also wants GTAIV they could easily accelerate their purchase.

I'm trying, that was just to easy, and some fanboys just deserve it
like I said, overall you KNOW that will force a Wii down in price, just from a logistics standpoint, yeah yeah, demand and supply(I still think N is just hording them anyways). Probably to match at $200, but who knows, the faster it's $150, the faster I'll get one.

RolStoppable has it exactly right.
Most people seem to ignore the fact that GTA is a huge casual gamer game. If MS knows what they are doing they will drop the price of their console by $100 in time for its release. If people had to choose $300 for a 360 or $600 for a PS3 there would be no discussion, no thought, they would buy the 360 version. As it is, I expect the 360 to get a bigger sales boost than the PS3, and I expect the sales of GTA4 to be much lower than the previous versions overall.
Since that's already been predicted I will add another one. I predict that the sales ratio of Core:Premium X360's will be much higher than average. If the 20GB PS3 was still around, I would predict the same thin for it.
Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

Well since GT appeals to a casual audience and the PS3 will not sell to that audience I don't think GT will do nearly as well. GTA is a casual game as well. Hardcore games are games that require a real commitment, like Final Fantasy or MGS. I think because of the casual nature of GTA it won't sell as well on the PS3 as on the 360, because the 360 is cheaper. I also think though that it won't sell all that well on EITHER of them compared to how GTA3 (and it's many reiterations) were selling last gen. The PS3 will sell some games really well but it will be different games than what sold really well last generation. Final Fantasy games will sell better, but casual games like GT and GTA will sell worse.

Let's face it: The main difference between PS2 (cutting edge gfx at launch) and PS3 (cutting edge gfx at launch) is $300. That is 300 extra dollars. Absolutely gets rid of any casual gamer support you coulda had.

Oy. You're ignoring the most important part of this argument:
When gamers go into a store to buy GTA IV, Halo 3 will be sitting next to it on the shelf. All four of the games you mentioned, while all are great franchises, they won't even have a release date announced at that time.
Casual gamers don't buy something like a gaming console based on future value; they don't study release dates, console performance, hell most don't even pay attention to game ratings. They buy what they see they want at a price they can afford. And the 360 will come in at $300/400 with two blockbusters versus the PS3 at $600 with the same blockbuster available on 360.
Which console do you think most will choose?
And if you argue with me on that point, you're completely unrealistic about markets and consumers. It's that simple.
