Forums - Nintendo - What's coming for Nintendo?

I'm in Australia so I still have SSBB to look forward to, and MarioKart as well as it is currently sold out and I can't get a copy of it.  But I find myself thinking back over the last six months for the Wii.  Wiifit, Brawl, SMG and MKW.  Whats left?

Don't get me wrong, I know there are a lot of strong titles coming for the console, but does the Wii have any MASSIVE titles left?

In truth, the console may not need them atm, as it was selling out before SMG arrived, but eventually it will need massive titles, titles that third parties haven't seemed able to provide.  Please bear in mind that I am only talking about big sellers that shift big numbers of consoles.  For example, is there any indication the Wii will get it's first ground-up Zelda title this year?  OR perhaps Wii-Sports 2?

As a comparison, the only massive guarenteed hit titles (based on historical sales) the Xbox 360 has this year are Gears of War 2 (which ISN'T a guarenteed system seller) and Fable 2 (which is).

The PS3 has MGS4 soon, but then the only guarenteed massive sales title is Resistance 2 and no guarenteed system sellers.

As the Wii is the system I know the least about (ironic given I own one, but I really did just buy it for Zelda and SMG), I'd like people to enlighten me.  All I'm talking about is the MASSIVE profile-raising, system-selling dead-cert titles (if there are any) that we KNOW or can REASONABLY ASSUME will hit this year or early next year.

 fission mailed.

As opposed to traditionally leaking information about future releases well in advance, Nintendo are deliberately holding back. Iwata suggests that given the increased pace at which information is digested these days, consumers become bored with products by the time they are released.

Nintendo plan on unveiling their line up at E3. Certain games have been hinted at already, such as Animal Crossing, Wii Music and Kid Icarus.

None of the three companies really have anything big planned for the end of the year. They're going to have to rely on the titles that were released earlier in the year for their systems (GTA4, Wii Fit) and several third parties titles set to release. These includes games such as Guitar Hero 4 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

The PS3 actually has Socom, Motorstorm 2, and Resistance 2 announced as big titles for the end of the year. As for the 360, it seems to be dropping Too Human in August, and after that, it doesn't seem to have much good exclusive announced for the rest of the year.

Looking at the Wii, it too doesn't have much lined up for the holidays in 08, at least not as announced. Each of the companies decided to release their biggest games in a select period. For Microsoft, it was holiday 07, and it helped to make their biggest holiday season yet. For Nintendo, it was early 08, and we're seeing phenomenal sales. For Sony, it seems to be holiday 08. We'll see how that goes.

I think that Wii Fit will be a phenomenon this year that will carry over to the holiday season.

I don't know if those games can be consider killer apps. Animal Crossing will be difficult to predict sales wise, as the difference between AC on the Gamecube and DS is humongous. Wii Music will be interesting, although I don't think it will be a huge phenomenon, especially if Wii Fit is still popular. As for Kid Icarus, well, I think you have the rest from there.

But Socom doesn't have a history of big sales.  Motorstorm 1 was mediocre and the second has almost no hype.  As for Resistance and Gears, their entire fanbases ALREADY own the console they'll need to play the sequel.   Fable 2 will sell consoles as the first sold 2.5 million copies and wasn't on the Xbox 360.

As for the multiplatform titles?  I doubt they'll offer a substantially different experience on any console (yes, even Wii Unleashed won't be that different).  So they arn't really want I'm interested in with this thread.  All three consoles face a dearth of dead-cert, system-selling exclusives for this year after MGS4 and Fable 2 so I want to know what Nintendo has.

Wii Sports 2, Wii Music, Wii Chess, WiiDropTheKidsOffAtSchool etc etc should all be big sellers. Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing (that's a HUGE one too) new Zelda, Nintendogs Wii (?), more Mario + Sonic crossovers....

Then theres the 2nd tier franchise like Pikmin, Wave Race, F-Zero, Donkey Kong, Kirby.

Yeah that should do the trick.

We already got a Donkey Kong didn't we?  Most of the titles you listed are NOT system sellers and many are unlikely to hit this year.  That said, a massive starfox or proper pokemon game could be what we are after here.  What I really want is a true Zelda for Wii.

I dont think Wii Chess will sell well at all lol.  Is there a real chance Wii Music will hit this year?

Oh, and I thought Pikmin would be much bigger than Animal Crossing.
