Sony is bound to replace the PSP with another handheld besides slim versions.  Any ideas for the new iteration?

Is this the same Apple that obliterated Sony's Walkman business and is in the process of dismantling Sony's phone business? The same Apple that partnered with Motorola and completely screwed them over?

I wouldn't be looking to Apple to save Sony. Apple will find a way to screw Sony over if it happens.

Who the hell was listening to a walkman when the ipod came about? And Sony Ericsson was never on top of the phone business in the US, not by a long shot.

Sony walkman died way before the ipod came around and sony ericksson is being hurt by nokia, not apple.

Ignoring everything that was incorrect about Fishy's post, I'm going to move onto the original topic.

Sony's priorities should be this with the PSP:

1. Hard or unable to pirate.

2. Lots of first and third party support, even if it means dishing out more money than they could possibly get back by selling said games.

3. A GOOD and thorough marketing campaign so that the PSP doesn't fall into obscurity like it did in 2006.

4. Features that are actually worth buying a PSP for, and couldn't be done better for a cheaper price.

5. Launching before the next Nintendo handheld, so they don't have to compete head to head and they could have a decent chance of victory (although it's pretty unlikely given the success of the DS).

What other name was there in portable audio besides Walkman before the iPod came along? Just a bunch of bit players.

The opportunity was there for Sony. Apple took the opportunity, Sony didn't.

What did Sony Ericcson specialize in? Music playing phones that are supposed to be hip. What kind of phone did Apple make? That's right, a music playing phone that is supposed to be hip.

Hm, the old "I want therefore it will be" argument. I thought that one had died out from its sheer lack of logic backing it.  Or perhaps it's simply being used sarcastically?

The odds are very good that, if Sony does make a PSP successor at all, it will attempt to one-up the DS at its own game. Which will, of course, not help it one bit. Differentiation is what gets you sales, not copying the most successful company in the industry.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.
