Forums - Sony - will ff13 revive ps3?

The final fantasy series has ALWAYS repeat ALWAYS sold fantastically in Japan. Its not unreasonable to suggest FF13 will be a huge seller and boost the console. Theres no way this would take it past the Wii though, but then, that shouldnt be Sonys aim anymore

The PS3 is specced ahead for its time (of course this is reflected on price/hardware losses). The PS3 could well outlast the PS2's lifecycle for many years, the PS2 will probably sell about 140 million, IMO Sony should aim to better this.

But of course everything in due time, if the PS3 sold twice as many units as it did and the PS2 would have been discontinued IMO Sony would have been in serious financial problems. Once the hardware is cost reduced enough, bring on the mass market sales.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

followed by decent support (which it hasn't got latley ) the PS3 will establish a userbase. I think Japan wants to embrace the PS3 the 2 million userbase without any software which > XBOX 360 with software indicates that the Japaneese are looking for a reason to adopt the PS3.

Final Fantasy + More japaneese support = revival.

PS3 never dead. Why should it be revive?

Look at it! It's better than Xbox 360!

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

I don't know about that.

Final Fantasy 13 can't revive the PS3 like Monster Hunter did for the PSP unless all the FF13 spinoffs hit at once and are all really hyped. Monster Hunter is a very popular game in Japan, with online. If you don't have Monster Hunter there, you ain't cool.

It should give a very impressive hardware boost, and debut to numbers we'd never thought we'd see on the PS3 in Japan, but long term, no. The consumers will be done playing Final Fantasy 13 and then what?

Really, so when Sony decided to stick in a modified 7800GTX into the PS3, they were planning for it to last 10 years even if in 10 years, we'll be getting GPUs that could very well be 10 times stronger?

Why not multiplatform? SE knows that it can't sustain high profile exclusives any more even if the their intended platform is winning.

Why are you so sure about that?  Any reason why it will not do the same or better?

FF main serie always sold pretty well, FFXII almost sold 2 million in Japan first week (the equivalent of the Japanese PS3's userbase and LTD sales of Monster Hunger 2G at the moment).
