Forums - Website Topics - There really needs to be a footnote on the chartz for comparing PS2 and PS3

I don't know how many times people come into topics saying the PS3 is tracking higher than the PS2 because they don't understand that there was a staggered launch. That is a large peice of misinformation, but a very common misconception.  It seems like a footnote inserted somehow would be far more time economical than explaining it to every person that is new to the site.

It can still be misinterpreted though. Often the best way to explain it is with a conversation with the misconcepted (possibly not a real word) person.

Or better yet have little notes on the charts pointing to specific events such as region launches, new model releases and on the "aligned launch" charts a marker for what time of year it was.

Perhaps on this graph for instance:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=All&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=PS2&reg3=All&weeks=110

there can be small (colour matching to the line) vertical lines in specific places which when highlighted gve more information than the usual exact sales figure.

So at the blip of the PS3 PAL launch would be a line, and when you point over it a small box comes up explaining it. and similar points could be on each week ending in early January.

That`s why i took 2 very Close periods of ps2 and ps3 sales, after more then 45 weeks since first launch for both consoles.
With many similar games coming at same periods for both consoles, it`s possible to see how ps3 is doing compared to ps2.
Though PS2 was selling for 299$ whole year, ps3 still has chances to get such price by the end of 2008, and like PS2 in last 3-4 months sell 8 mln. =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

You can't shoo away a shark with a broom... you need a small number of dolphins.

May I suggest this game:

You can find a number of dolphins there.

TWRoO has a good idea though, a bit more historical context in the chartz. Might be difficult to do, but it would add alot of depth and meaning to them.
