Forums - Sales - Why the NPD PS3/360 sales make sense, weekly comparison

Don't know about the PS3, but with the 360 perhaps sales in April were especially hurt because the speculated price cut to coincide with GTA4 never came. Then again, maybe the average video game consumer doesn't pay attention to rumors. Cut the price, MS.

It's more like the weekly sales decreased so much early in April that the boost in the last week wasn't enough to bring up the overall weekly average. Which is still bizarre but I guess in line with what's been said.

And that kitten is way too adorable.

Ahh...  Okies.  I got it now.

Also, thanks Rubang's ghost

And yes, the cat is very adorable

So the conclusion is: the PS360 numbers would've been much worse without the GTA4 and the upcoming numbers will either stay the same or drop as a post GTA4 effect.

Yeah I was thinking about this in context of the 54% increase in launch week that MS claimed. It just seems like whatever the % increase there should've been a lot more hardware units moved. Especially when Halo 3 moved like 200k extra 360s in September, while GTA4 only increased like 50k total across two systems.

I'd been saying all along that GTA 4 wouldn't move as many unit as Halo 3.  Halo 3 was right around the price drop time too, *and* Halo 3 is a hardcore game where GTA 4 is a very casual game.

i still think they just adjusting their # for the previous months. They did the same thing with the wii months ago.

Perhaps.  This is just speculation, of course, but the NPD said they were surprised by GTA 4's inability to move units.

There is a problem, it is so obvious that it is funny to see some people happy with these NPD numbers or trying to make senseless comparaison PSP/DS/PS2 vs PS360 (where do you put the Wii ?) ...

Basically : every report claim that PS360 hardware sales have increased during April (including VGChartz) and suddenly NPD comes and we have to take them as truth.

I m NOT going to say WHO is closer from the truth, I m just saying that these NPD numbers seem VERY strange

Whatever, it is like this.

NOTE : Can't we say that the PSP/PS2/DS 25% drop is du to the 5 weeks March versus 4weeks April NPD datas ?

Well, September is near the holiday season and Halo was landed on a console with a price deop a month prior.

I think, however, that the incredible enormous Wii sales are/will damaging/damage sales of other console. I can't imagine what could happen if Wii will sellnear 1 million in May ...

I still think something's up. Like libellule said, EVERY source pointed towards higher sales in April vs March, most notably our very own numbers here at VGChartz.

But whatever. This month should see a considerable rise in sales because of GTAIV residuals and because of the tax stipends. A guy came into our store yesterday to pick up a ps3, DS3, GTAIV, GTA: SA, and a couple of DS games for his kids with his stipend.
