The Chinese government need a swift kick up the arse, not through the olympics but another way. They need to be given an ultimatum concerning their human rights regimes.

There is a girl from China in my year at uni and we were discussing at how much we hate Gordon Browns government and she said it was good government for the fact that you can talk about how bad it is. Then she went on to say that in China if we were having the same discussion about their government we would either be arrested or lynched. Go figure.

How could we boycott the country that has the largest reserve of US Dollars and US government bonds. If they dump it all the US would go bankrupt.

I think it would be a good idea to boycott the olympics and show China that the world community is not pleased with their human rights abuses. All of the negative publicity they've had recently is really taking its toll and China has finally agreed to let outside aid workers help them with the aftermath of the quake.

 That would be cutting their own throat.  Don't get too caught up in that phantom threat.

 So we should boycott something we can easily live without (the Olympics) and not boycott something the Chinese would actually care about (clothes, computers, cheap furniture, Wal-Mart's entire stock).  Wow, we are certianly suffering for the cause.  Maybe we should boycott McDonalds by no longer ordering one of their salads.

excuse me, but the main reason china is hosting the olympics is so its governement can try and make themselves look good, if thats not political, i dont know what is, the main reason countries wont boycott it though is balls, most leaders dont have them, i would have great respect for any country that grows a pair and says no to china, anyone who thinks the olympics arent political is living in a dream world where money and corruption dont exist, what needs to happen is proper scrutiny from the IOC, any country allowed to host the games should be doing so for the right reasons, not be an abusive government and countrys should lay out a finance plan when they bid as well.

If you know anything about democracy you would know that the US doesn´t fullfill all the requirements for being a democracy.
