Forums - Sales - How will the economy effect your gaming.

Perhaps I am an alarmist, and perhaps I am overreacting. However yesterday when I pulled up to the gas pump I felt deeply concerned when I saw the price of gasoline went up another ten cents. This two days since my last visit to the same pump. The price is getting ever closer to four dollars a gallon. A price many were predicting would not be reached until the end of the summer season. Which has me thinking exactly how high can the prices go this year. Would five dollars before the end of the year be out of the question or what of six.

Needless to say I have definitely reevaluated my financial situation another dollar per gallon of gas will run me an additional thirty dollars per month, and one of the best places to make back the potential loss is to decrease my spending on gaming. Perhaps I will buy a couple less games, or try to buy used games in their place. Regardless I have no plans to buy any games over the next few months now. Playing it safe about the economy seems to be my goal over the next few months. Better to have the extra cash if I need it in case necessities greatly increase in cost over the coming months.

I am curious how others are responding to economic concerns. Are you planning to delay purchases or omit them entirely? Are you planning to purchase different things, because they are more cost effective? Are you reprioritising your purchases. For instance I had a couple summer titles I was mildly interested in that now are no longer considered, because of my fast. Now the next game I plan to get is Too Human.

Anyway I am curious as to how others are reacting to the economy.

Around the Network

Gas prices are pretty low where I live compared to the rest of the US. Its about $3.15 right now, though when I filled up last, it was a bit higher.

OT: I don't think that it will have a whole lot of an effect, because I don't plan on getting many games until fall (Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, and LittleBigPlanet are the big ones)which gives me plenty of time to save up some cash.

Trends in Japan is what effects my gaming the most. The outlook is very bad right now, as they reject HD and go casual. Maybe the Japanese economy does have an effect.

I avoid driving as much as possible, as I walk usually where I need to go (unusual for an American).

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Won't effect me at all. I have a good job and no wife or kids.
