They have obviously done this so that once they know they will make this prediction they can increase it and it will make the company look so much better than having to lower it, as people have stated previously!

It is refreshing to see a Sony that isn't overly cocky and thinking that they own the gaming world just because of the success of the PS2!

They know they will be second no matter what so now they are focusing on profit. To maximize profit they will try to squeeze as much revenue out of Holidays 08. If they drop the price they will eat away a lot of their potential profit. PS3 will have plenty of demand over the holidays so there is no reason to drop the price any time soon.

Either no price drop or a very small one. Now you know why MS hasn't played it's big price drop yet, they've been waiting for this to happen...to strike at the time when Sony can't react.

Sony has to stop these losses somehow and you can't do that with price drops, MS did the same last year at the cost of a bit of market share and the profit is now rolling in just in time to price drop this holiday and take PS3 to the cleaners.

$623 million in this fiscal year dumb dumb

It's already beaten 4 out of 8 of the PS2's years in terms of profitability...if they make $30 million in profit for next quarter, they'll have surpassed another 2 years.

It's already one of the most profitable quarters any console maker has ever had (it's already beat a few Nintendo years too) that they can do that and have doomed PS3 to last place this gen is even more impressive.

A nicely timed price drop (after MGS4 has died down) could keep PS3 sales high until christmas...just take £50 quid off it here and it will blast off

 LOL Zunes? Keep telling yourself that. Yeah and I bet Games for Windows brought in way more than Halo 3. LULZ

 

I too will be laughing at the bolded part when it happens. Sony coming last is the best thing to happen in gaming since Microsoft invented the dual analogue stick.

 

It's a new golden age.

I see Ps3 going with the smaller chipset this year and riding out the price and Christmas sales with a Price drop next year.

This isnt something logical for Sony? After last FY when they predicted 14mil sold but only sold 9mil.They know demand is there but choose to go with a lower shipment target and increase when necessary to look good rather have a surplus and look bad.

Well there HAS to be a sign of worry though. I mean if it was a slam dunk they would sell 10 million+ people it would have no effecet.

For example if wii projection ten million sold next fiscal year people would just treat any raising of projections as a boring stupid move and consider the whole thing an incompetant stunt.

It's a VERY good chance, but there are some things they must be worried about to keep it so low.

Based off a projection of 10 million i'd expect them to sell 12-13 next year.
