should be more profit then the christmas quarter. Because more PS3's were sold at a loss over christmas. Plus loads more software (GTA4) was sold this quarter.

GTA was sold Q1 2008. Sony is reporting for Q4 2007. (so next report)

But they do have Nathan Drakes strong legs, GT5P, and DMC4 sales this quarter.

I think they will have a bigger profit than MS. 200mil-300mil Would be my assumption.

Reasons:
Lower advertising costs (Thanksgiving & Christmas have so many more advertisments than these months)

Less promotions and giveaways.

Lower production costs

Strong sales all round for the Playstation brand.

Anyone have that Profit/loss calender for Sony handy? I'd like to know how much loss they are looking at in 2007

I'm thinking about putting this on an excel chart......anybody know if this can be done on this website??  I would also like to chart the profit margins as well, since that is the most accessible of all of the ratios.

As far as comparing Sony w/ MS you might be right, but as MS gets rid of the RROD problem I expect the 360's profits to take a great leap forward, b/c they take in $$$$ from downloads, XBL subscriptions, HAlo, and most of all tons and tons of software.  The RROD is reallly the only thing that has been a drag on profits......and this problem is drying up more and more every month.  We'll really see when MS has conquered this when they feel confident enough to cut prices, which b/c of the high level of expenses,  I feel that the RROD has kept MS from cutting prices as low as the 360 deserves.

Sony's Q4 2007 is what we call Q1 2008, the difference is b/c company's fiscal years don't necessarily start in Janurary.

PS2/PSP/PS3 projections and shipments to date will be the most interesting.

PS2/PSP shipments are still under the 'units manufactured' mantra though. PS3 is shipped to retail.

Yeah this is really a pity.

Who believe last quarter SCE reported a loss ?

It's going to be difficult to determine what the actual profit/loss is. They only report operating income for the divisions, which doesn't show the effect of the yen/dollar.

Nintendo wrote down nearly $900 million because of the lousy US dollar.

The Nikkei Group expected them to post a $1.2 billion loss for the year. This would mean a profit of around $50 million for Q4.

Never mind.

Are you sure they are recorded this way.  If you look at this Sony page and the links on the left it would seem they track sold to retail for all their systems now.

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps2_sale_e.html

The links just confirm what I said in a way (although I guess it does show that recently Sony has tracked sales to retail as shipments).

But, there is no lifetime shipped to retail figure for PS2 under units of hardware, just under the production shipment. Same is true for PSP.

It's official. 9.24 million PS3's shipped this year. Forecast 10 million next year.
