Forums - Sony - Why is PSN so slow?

The other night I was downloading the Haze demo and it took 30 minutes to download. I'm not kidding, none of my other consoles have problems with their network connections. All my system are set with static IP addresses and I have an internal DNS server to make queries faster. The reason I have an internal DNS server is because all the consoles are on 100 mbps ports on my switch. The DNS server is on a Gigabit port.

Back to my story, I was getting figgity waiting, so I turned on my 360 and began to download the Bourne Conspiracy demo. The 360 download finished in 6 minutes. Both the Bourne Demo and Haze Demo are around the same size (1.2 GB) Why did it take five times longer to download on PSN?

Around the Network

Microsoft has more experience with downloading. So they have better infrastructure in place. This is pretty new to Sony.

Wow I'm really hurting for you.
30 minutes to download 1.43 GB, whatever is the world coming to?

What is the speed of your connection?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

He just created this thread to brag about his connection speed , can't you see?

Around the Network

so 1.2gb in 6 minutes... 200mb a minute.... 3.3 megs a second... 26.4 (roughly) megabit a second download speed. That's a good connection you got going on there. Not to mention two simultaneous downloads (and who knows what else) bringing the actual throughput of your connection to incredible. You on a 100mb line to the isp? And a hell of a 100mb line at that.

In short... stop complaining.

Also... why do you have the ps3 on a 100mb switch, surely with all the effort you have gone to on the setup you would put it on a gigabit?

I have Optimum Online, plus I pay for boost. I get a 30 Meg token buddy. My connection speed is great. I've topped downloads out at 5 MBits a second via bittorrent.

I have my PS3, 360 on 100 Meg ports cause the switch I have has only two Gigabit ports. I use those for my Primary workstation and Server.

See how fast connection makes impatient kids these days...

Why do you have an internal DNS? Are you a root server?

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Well in my experience he is right PSN downloads seem to take forever at least tehy did pre April of last year I don't know anymore. It took me 8 hours to download the Ninja Giaden demo and way to long to download trailers. That said I haven't been on PSN in a while hopefully it is faster now.
