I don't know about you people but I find this idea brilliant. Inovations are great but sometimes continuity is also good.

If you couple that in with full backwards compatibility for 360 games and the right marketing, I could see very many early adopters to the new Microsoft console. It would definitely be nice to not have to start over with Achievements.

If Microsoft didn't rollover achievements, that would probably have killed the next Xbox.

It's no surprise as gamertags from xbox 1 can be upgraded with the 360.

Another thing the have to explain is how Xbox live arcade games and other paid DLC is going to be transfered. I've spent about 50 quid on all that stuff, if that isn't moved over i will be very angry!

so they are planning to launch the new Xbox at the moment the PS3 should be at it's top, or around it's top, with a strong library and a good price by then?

we know one thing for sure, that if they launch the next Xbox in 2010, someone is going to get really hurt, Microsoft or Sony...

I would rather the new Xbox have "Xbox 720" achievements and "Xbox 360 achievements". That way, the people who are just getting their first Xbox console (or who had Xbox but skipped 360) wouldn't be left hopelessly in the dust.

MS would be stupid not to let them roll over. GS and achievements are 2 of the things that people really like about the 360, so having them on the 720 or whatever it will be is a must really.

I agree. Achievements are really stupid when you think about them but they're hard to resist collecting. Something should be done to equalize things a bit.

On the topic of achievements, wouldn't it be a good idea to allow the image for each unlocked achievement be used as a gamertag picture?

Imagine the bragging rights of being able to use one of the extremely difficult achievements as your gamer image.
