^GT5 is a Japanese game made for Europeans...UNSTRIKE IT!.

OnT: It depends how much you'll want FF13, currently the 360 has more Japanese RPGs by far. But the PS3 will be getting Disgaea3 and Valkyria Chronicles this year, aswell as Shin Megami Tensei, Steambot chronicles, White Knight Story and ofcourse FF13 + FF13 versus down the road. But I believe when it's all said and done, the PS3 will have more of a Japanese catered library than 360 in the end (obviously).

I added Western games because it's hard to tell what some people like. For example, GT5 isn't a Western game and neither LBP nor BK3 are in a Western style.

I tossed in Too Human and Fable in case he liked RPGs and Halo Wars in case he likes RTS games.

Ah, I forgot about Disgaea 3. I knew I was forgetting a good Japanese series in there somewhere.

Oh yeah..... I almost forgot, when talking about Japanese catered games, don't forget about this underdog.

Nobi Nobi boy will change the face of gaming as we know it, and it's exclusively on the PS3.

Also as Blu-ray is region free, and the OP likes Japanese style games; Cross Edge, Initial D: Extreme Stage, Yakuza 3, and even Siren: Blood Curse could also be taken into consideration.

Edit: Oh and Blazblue: Calamity Trigger.

Oh right.... Totally forgot about Yakuza and Siren, those two game are as Japanese as it gets.. But I dunno if Initial D and Cross Edge will make it over seas or have english subtitles.

Does team ICO games count as "Japanese"?

Right now 360 has broader library but it clearly still does have reliability issues and if you plan on being online you need to consider paying for MS service vs Sony's service being free.

On flip side PS3 is without question more reliable product but it has weaker library overall (although i suspect this will cease to be the case by end of year or early 2009 at latest). PS3 does get you BR if that is of interest.

I'd say have a good long look at what exclusives are known for each for at least next 12 months - i.e. 360 will have Fable and LO but PS3 will have FF plus GT5 & MGS and White Knight Story (I think that's the title) - and see which titles appeals most to you.

Multi-platform titles (of quality) are essentially the same on each now (despite pixel pouring fanboys). If you look at DMC4 or Asssassins' Creed or Burnout Paradise (or GTA IV) on a typical setup then to the average joe they look and play the same.

If I was to consider a 'tilt' approach I'd probably suggest the PS3 might be better for you as in the long run I think its more likely it will end up with a more diverse library (particularly outside of shooters) than 360 - but of course that's just my own feeling.

Or you could get a PC!

Your name may be Reasonable but you did a pretty good job of slighting the 360 with that lineup listing.

By the end of the year:

360:
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Fable 2
Infinite Undiscovery
Too Human
Halo Wars
Banjo Kazooie 3
Ninja Gaiden II

For the PS3, I'll extend into next year (a little unfair I know but since the OP doesn't like FPS, the PS3 lineup is a little weak in 2008):
LittleBigPlanet
FFXIII
GT5
White Knight Story
MGS4

By the middle of 2008, I think the lineups between the two will be comparable. The PS3 will have fewer games but more blockbusters (GT5, MGS, FF). On the other hand, the 360 will have an absolute mountain of 80+% games by that point but not quite as many blockbuster games.

Nope - I just put in a few of the top of my head for each... as I stated I was expecting the OP to look up the full lists (although you've handily done some of the work for them) and that was my advice so there was no intent to slight anything.  All I was doing was pointing out each will have exclusives and that's going to be what's different between them.

I didn't know people were so touchy you had to be careful to make sure that if you mention 4 games for PS3 you must mention 4 for 360, or that you must use 360 same amout of times as PS3.  I wrote a short un-biased view that said compare each consoles pros/cons (as both have them, neither is perfect) and then look to the titles which attract you most, and as a few more titles were known to me for PS3 than 360 I listed them and advised him to look up rest... you're saying that's biased?

Seems anyone with a 360 or a PS3 is just jumping on anything right now they think is remotely a slight on their system.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well, what do you think?

If you need someone to convince you to buy a console, you don't need to be buying a console.

I own them both. I just wanted the 360 to get a fair shake because its 2008 lineup is pretty impressive IMO.

That's just it... The art style in Team ICO games leans toward the west if anything, just as the art styles of Banjo and LBP are pretty mixed.

Then again, the idea of liking either "Japanese style" or "Western style" games better is baffling to me. There is so much crossover nowadays that some developers make it hard to distinguish the two.
