Forums - Sales - What qualifies as good sales?

MGS4 doesn't need 5 or more mill sales to break even; Kojima did say they need 1 mill on launch day though..

''Hadouken!''

Around the Network

$70m dev budget.

If the publisher gets $20 per game that's 3.5 million sales needed right there.

add in shipping/marketing costs and we are talking over 4 million and I'm not sure the publisher gets $20 per game. (I woud guess it is between $15 and $25)

And remember this is a business, Konami cannot survive if they only break even with each game they publish.

source of his numbers...mostly estimates but if you think about it, it's generally true

game costs 1 million to make, the company has to sell enough copies to cover said expenses...

say they get 10bucks per game

100k games = 1 million

game costs 5 million to make... 500k sold

10 million to make 1million

20 million to make =2 million
100 million to make = 10 million sold to Break Even...

etc.

also certain games have the "blockbuster" tags on them

GTA, FF, DQ, etc. those are sequels and they can directly compare prior versions.
