I actually preferred the previous ones over this one.. the hardware is better sure, but a lot of the games released the past couple of years just haven't appealed to me as much.

Hello fellow tar heel (UNC Chapel Hill Class of 68) yea gods, that was a long time ago. I noticed you are 26, which is an age where our tastes and priorities often change. Then it's always hard to know for sure if the games are not as good, or have you changed.

I've had to deal with this question several times in my life. In each case my gaming pattern and/or hardware changed.

Yeah I'll admit it's just me.. as the games I do enjoy most are often VC releases on Wii or remakes of old ones.  One thing I've noticed is that people make it seem like casual games are new and bad.. when it was casual games that started the whole video game business to begin with.  They were always simple, to the point, easy to pick up and finish in a short time when you just felt like playing something.  It wasn't until later that things became "hardcore", requiring large time investments, the story becoming more important than the actual game, and so on.  So it's not surprising that Nintendo's newer focus on 'casual' games and bringing things back to their roots has sort of caught my attention.

The good:

I'm very glad two HD consoles are in a strong competition. Something we haven't seen since the 16 bit era.

The bad:

I'm with Onna here. I am very disappointed in the direction Japanese gaming is going. jRPGs have always been the bread and butter of my gaming experience. I'm hoping the genre won't go out like 2D spaceship shooters.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

I had more expectations for this generation. The games have been really good. But I was expecting more...

The Wii hasn't really surprised me... The most surprising thing will be how long it dominates...

The PS3, needs more exclusive games...

The 360 is great on exclusive games, but the hardware reliability has me wanting to find a way to kill all of them so I get them refurbed to reliable states before the 3 year warranty is up.

NO, WII is disappointing me kinda lately, when it comes to real quality games, mostly from 3rd party developers, plus the whole casual thing is really getting boring to me. The new life it has been brought in with WII Ware is giving me some happiness about the WII again, question is only... for how long... PS3 I wasn't positive about before buying, became positive as soon as I used it more and I consider it my favorite above my WII, but am very disappointed about the games! Still waiting for those RPG's and the line up is dramatic. If I worked at Sony I would really start kicking asses around with developers to make some move with games instead of keeping them postponed all the time, or keep gamers waiting unnecessary long. It takes progress my ass, Imnsoniac and Naugthy Dog don't have the trouble of releasing quality games fast. No I can't say I'm pleased - yet - about this generation when it comes to console games.

The problem with RPGS is that they appeal to a very small userbase.   They probably won't want to release until FF releases to make sure that a decent number of RPG fans have PS3s.  Even then with the skyrocketing Development costs...

I just don't know... what they're going to do... unless people prove they're willing to accept slightly better then PS2 level graphics i'm not sure if the classic niche RPGs we know and love will continue this generation.

They might support the Wii,  but I don't think they're sure the market is their either since the Wii doesn't really have any RPGs either... though with the widening Japanese gap, it might be their best guess.  Though everything the Wii has started as new, so far has been the antithesis of the RPG... and the Wii is at the phase of it's life where i'm sure everyone feels they NEED to use the wiimotes to abilties in some way.

Really JRPGS may stay on the PS2 for a long time.

What i'm happy about is the SRPGs though... there suddenly seems to be a big ressuregence of them, like it's the PS1 era all over again.

this gen has been o.k. for me

wii- dont really play much. a lot of gamecube/nintendo64 sequels and little 3rd party support. Now that brawl has come and gone im selling it for 340 with my controllers and games.

PS3- don't play much either. It seems like sony has been a mess so far this generation but things should start to take off with the gta mgs killer

Xbox360- easily my favorite so far this gen. it has the best games and the best versions of most multiplatforms. got me intrested in online gaming but it scratched my gears and lost planet disks and i had to send it in once for repairs which took 2 weeks but was pretty simple

no im a not satisfied with this generation so far until a console has the same amount of of JRPG'S has the PS2 or more. until than I plan to get my fix in gaming from games from previous generations

Systems I own (Games)

Sega: Dreamcast (40) , Saturn (25), Genesis (50), Masters System (10), Game Gear (20)

Sony: PS1 (8), PS2 (60) , PS3 (5), PSP (12)

Atari: 2600 (18) , 7800 (10), Lynx (10)

I'm satisfied with the performance of the 360 and Wii so far this gen. The DS is absolutely amazing, and I don't own a PSP.

I do own a PS3, and I'm not happy with its current generation library yet, but that could change.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

PS3 is the all in one machine. Brilliant HD gaming console, great games, internet browser, best online and Blu-Ray player. Best invention of all time. Go PS3 Go.

i've been most happy than ever, because of Wii!!

last gen, i only spent time on 3-4 games on ps2 or game cube, now i own 26 Wii games!! :)

i've got to say that Wii is getting more and more fun, where some people said "Wii won't last"......i think it's the opposite!!

btw, watching GTA IV's sales decreasing so fast, and Wii Fit/Mario Kart being still high, i start to think that the best selling game of 2008 will be one of the big 3 Nintendo games....

Feel free to add me, and sent me a pm with your Friend Code!!

I've already bought more Wii games than my last gen total and about as many as on N64.

That and a lot of friends who didn't have much interest in vg are now enjoying the Wii, so, I'm very happy with this gen.
