Forums - Gaming - Microsoft should not of entered Video game market

This thread is definitely trolling for ms fan boys. Personally from Nintendo’s current position I don’t think they care who else is in the market and I share that opinion. The only people who care that there is an x box are the Sony fans because their brand has to compete and looses sales that would have belonged to Sony. currently more people in the world have chosen a 360 then a ps3 so its obvious that theres more people out there who think its good to have a 360 on the market then there are sony fan boys who think it isnt. Nintendo fan boys wouldnt care less because their console is eating chips and smiling

Here are my reasons:

- 5 to 6 billion dollars in losses over 7 years for the XBox/ X360 projects between 2001 to 2008.

- Microsoft entered to stop Sony's dominance and to annoy Sony.

- Microsoft crippled Nintendo by buying Rare back in 2001.

- Microsoft partly contributed to the downfall of Sega.

- Lack of innovation with games, most XBox/X360 games are ports of PC games.

- Unreliable hardware with 360 this generation.

- Increased costs of launch consoles that are just a PC in a box.

 - True

 - Annoy?  No, stall Sony's idea of a videogame entertainment hub untill computers could convince people to have a pardigm shift and have living room computer entertainment hubs yes.

- Rare hasn't made a good game since they left, and well... Nintendo isn't looking to crippled.

- Nah, the only one responsible for Sega's downfall was Sega.  Had they not came out with the 32X, CD and had not killed off the saturn so soon the Dreamcast could of rivaled the PS2.

- I'd say it's the other way around.  The PC games are ports of 360 games.  Don't see the problem with this.  A lot of these games wouldn't of been made without 360.  Or would of not becoem popular (Halo.)

- It's unreliable, but a lot of people like it.

- This is different from the PS3 how?

As much as I hate them as a company, I like the idea of them as a console creator, minus the fact the 360 is built like complete garbage, although mine has been running just fine for about 4 months now and over the the weekends I played it extensively. *knocks on wood*

Competition brought us options. We have the Wii if you feel like playing something different, sometimes extremely fun and still having pretty solid graphics. Then the PS3/360, both with Next Gen graphic capabilities and tons of media options.

Past two years, Sony has taken more losses than MS. In fact, MS has made profit so far this FY...Sony hasn't.

Nintendo sold back their 49% share of Rare to the company. Only after that did MS buy all the shares. MS never bought Rare back because they never owned Rare in the first place nor did it cripple Nintendo because 90% of what made Rare great left the company. Rare made 2 AAA games on N64 per year. What have they done in the past 7 years for MS?

Sega contributed to the downfall of Sega. EA hurt them more than MS did by not supporting the DC at all.

Nothing wrong with PC ports if you're a PC like gamer but can't afford a gaming rig.

PS2 hardware was pretty horrible for the first two years too (OK, not as bad but still not good).

Of all the reasons for suggesting MS should never has gotten into the video game industry, you chose all the wrong ones.

I don't know.  The Sega Sports games were outselling the PS2 EA games early on from what i remember.  It was just the DC could never capture the casual larger audience outside of the Sega Fanboys because they weren't sure if the Deramcast would just get abandoned like the Saturn, 32X and CD were.

That and their were the rumors circulating that Sega was going to go bankrupt.

Sega, Nintendo and Sony fans all questioned MS intentions to enter video game market industry. Take into account Microsoft has a monopoly over Windows OS, 90% market share ownership to MS. Video game market is just a game of cat and mouse played by Microsoft with the Video game market front runners. Imagine a Video game market dominated by Microsoft? That would be disastrous for gamers.

I don't need to imagine a videogae market dominated by Microsoft.

 One already exists.

It's called PC gaming...

and it's awesome.

i like having 3 companies on the market, because it forces new strategies against the dominant company (ie, ninty and ms learning how to beat sony), but i dont like ms. i wont lie, they are turning into a decent game company but i dont like them as a company.

i wish someone else would step in and steal the thunder from the xbox.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

Without Microsoft in the video game console industry. A PS3 would of been less high tech and would of had a launch price between 200 - 300 dollars US. A complete different scenario. But purely hypothetical.

I hate MS mainly because I do not like American business ethics and i despise American governments. Workers are under paid in America and US companies and US government tramples on the little guy. Americans trying to take over and impose there will upon the world. Take a look at the unnecessary wars: Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. American leaders are war mongerers and appear worse than terrorists. Blood for oil is disgraceful, America wake up. MicroSoft represents the evil Imperialist America trying to take over the world and force their will upon everyone.

 AMEN TO THAT!!!

Nothing better than New York to give the little guy $7.15 /hr plus $4.09 a gallon for Gas.

I don't make minimum wage BTW. If so, then forget about gaming.

You and I have very different views on the world.  As far as war goes, take a look at all the wars of the last few hundred years. http://www.warscholar.com/Timeline.html. The USA is in very few of them. The USA did not start WWII or WWI. War was declared on us both times. We entered Vietnam after the French lost there. We entered Afghanistan after the Russians bombed the shit out of them for 20 years. War is everywhere, and not something the USA has any monopoly on.

As for the economy, the US is the only government I know of where the only thing keep you from being successful, is yourself. There is no class system here. If you are born a poor black kid, or a rich white kid, the law treats you the same. Every option is open to you. Now with a system like that, the smart can use it to become very rich, but that's the nature of giving people the freedom to succeed or fail.

The USA is, in my opinion, the greatest form of government ever conceived. It is a government of laws, and not of men. The first of its kind.
