Forums - Gaming - Microsoft should not of entered Video game market

Microsoft is welcome to spend money how they wish. If you don't like their business models don't invest in their company.

It's unlikely they developed the Xbox out of any form of malice towards Sony. MS is a huge multi-faceted corporation. Like Google one of their main goals is massive diversification. The Xbox was likely a result of this.

...man... why do we have to respond to this kind of flame juice? My gut says, "Fail." But I'm nicer than that.

It's only fair for americans to have their own american made console since american game development has been leading the industry for a while now.

Nintendo needed Rare back in the Game Cube days. Game Cube struggled to sell over 22 million consoles. Down from 33 million N64 to 22 million Game Cube, a big fall in numbers.

That's retarded to assume Rare could have kept Nintendo from selling less than N64 levels.

Like I said, Rare made 2 AAA games on N64 EVERY YEAR.  They were able to make 1 GC game and then their artists and programmers started jumping ship to other companies.  Nintendo realized Rare was no longer the company they were so they sold off their 49% share.

Since Nintendo sold Rare, they have made 1 GC remake and one failed title on Xbox and 3 X360 titles (one of which started as a GC game).

N64 - 10 absolutely incredible games in just 4 years.

GC - 1 decent game fiinal year with Nintendo.

Xbox and X360 - 5 mediocre to decent games after 7 years.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I do not like what Microsoft is doing to PC gamers forcing them to upgrade to Windows Vista. Windows XP will no longer be sold from 1st July 2008. Windows XP actually works better than Windows Vista. XP has better frame rates, performance, XP uses less system memory, etc.

Thanks for the background information. I did not take an interest ingaming, last console generation. Well a cheap PS2 might be fun to check out if I have missed out on much.

Here are my reasons:

- 5 to 6 billion dollars in losses over 7 years for the XBox/ X360 projects between 2001 to 2008.

- Microsoft entered to stop Sony's dominance and to annoy Sony.

- Microsoft crippled Nintendo by buying Rare back in 2001.

- Microsoft partly contributed to the downfall of Sega.

- Lack of innovation with games, most XBox/X360 games are ports of PC games.

- Unreliable hardware with 360 this generation.

- 5 to 6 billion dollars in losses over 7 years for the XBox/ X360 projects between 2001 to 2008. I thought they were making money/Sony has lost more? maybe Sony should drop out

- Microsoft entered to stop Sony's dominance and to annoy Sony. Microsoft entered to make money

- Microsoft crippled Nintendo by buying Rare back in 2001. Nintendo sold the shares, Nintendo did this, remember Nintendo did not have to sell......PERIOD

- Microsoft partly contributed to the downfall of Sega.  I like Sega, but Sega was their own worst enemy

- Lack of innovation with games, most XBox/X360 games are ports of PC games. I think they have a lot of innovative games, as far as ports, Isnt the Wii littered with PS2 ports?

- Unreliable hardware with 360 this generation. I have not had problems with mine yet....knock on wood lol

Peppers can be used for just about anything!

YOU *bleep* SON OF A *bleep*ING *bleep*!

Is that enough flaming?

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Microsoft make a trillion dollars every year selling Windows OS and through exclusive licensing over PC OS. Microsoft is a monopolistic company who cares little for market innovation, all MS wants is complete control over everything.
