Something I didn't figure out until later in my life is that it really doesn't matter what you look like or what you have when it comes to most women ...

Saying someone is "out of your league" has to do with physical attraction. Your friend might tell you that if he thinks shes too hot for you or if he wants her for himself. I think once you start talking, "leagues" are out the window and then it turns into if you got anything in common with each other.
