PMs are only between two people and IRC (another place where it can happen) is unofficial and usually only temporary, when there are forum topics lambasting a member thats when the feuds and stuff really start.

Although I do think that its also wrong to talk shit about somebody in PMs or on IRC when they aren't there.

I agree so we all should see the MOD secret forum group so we can see what they write about us :).

Slightly different. The mods on any forum have to discuss the members and their actions. Its not shit-talking when they do that, its probably the largest part of moderating.

=p Well we can't say that for 100%..

Dogs Rule does have a point. The discussion forums will probably be deserted once everyone gets in there club of choice. I think giving every group there very own forum is probably a bit too much.

VGCHARTZ PRESENTS:

BI-WEEKLY LEAGUE
All VGCharterz welcome!!!
PSN: Al_Kickurass, Official Warhawk League Thread!!!-> http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=21937

As long as mods could read group posts and they could be reported in the mod queue it shouldn't be a problem to stop insults and such from being in them.

Also, Konnichiwa, of course we talk about members. Usually to decide how to punish them when they act up, or if we are pulling for a permaban (which is a group decision these days).

I already joined a group. It's called VGChartz.

Currently the titles of each forum have the word "discussion" in them. A "discussion" is at its best when both sides of an issue are represented. With the creation of user-created forums, you will essentially kill-off the general population forums as people form cliques to isolate themselves from oposing factions. While this may appear beneficial since it eliminates "trolls," it also prevents you from being confronted with a diferent view of reality which in turn will lead to group-think.

There already exists mechanisms to avoid people who greatly interfere with the normal flow of videogame and off-topic "discussions" and those are mod warnings, bannings and (my personal favorite) scrolling away from the posts by people who have through their post history proven to have opinions not worth taking the time to read. Perhaps the addition of a "block posts from this user" button would apease the people who are too lazy to mentally ignore a poster.

What about new users when all of the regular users are tucked away in their private discussion cocoons? Will they all wallow together in Shite (I perfer the Irish way of saying s*it) until they get noticed by one of the "cool groups"? Will the "cool group" members even go to the general population forums to have a chance to meet the new users?

So you are willing to jeopardize one of the great gaming forums and for what? So people can post porn? There are better porn forums out there. So people can talk about mature subjects? Try the AARP's forums. So that you can be shielded from opposing factions? Join the official forum for your system.

I thought I left behind the world of cliques when I graduated from high school.

That's a legitimate concern and something that would have to be monitored if we were to implement this feature, but I don't think people will abandon the discussion in the general forums since the activity levels generally won't be high in the group forums.

I don't tend to agree with naked men on the internet, but Ghost, you summed up my sentiment to perfection.

Who will lead the SDF group now that leo-j is gone?

I like the idea of groups, I think it will be a great addition to the site.

Well we should vote about it then =p.   Rock on 2008, Crazyman etc..

After spending the day thinking about this and other related topics I have come to the decision that these types of ideas really benefit no one.

It just seems it will breed too much distrust and unnecessary anger. I have never worried about what I say and no one should have too. Plus, I think this will cause too much hardship on the mod team who will have to baby those that will take advantage of the imaginary walls.

I am officially only in the open forums regardless of what decision is made here.
