I really hope they rebuild with better precautions. Maybe take a look at how other nations create buildings with a little bit better earthquake resistant designs. California has some really good solutions. |
Well, I heard the ground cracked up at some places..I know you can protect buildings against tremblings but against ground that cracks open? |
You have to realize that Wuhan isn't at the epiccentre.. in fact, it's not even in the same province, there's absolutely no reason for the ground to crack open there. Building quality is a HUGE issue there. Government official often (well, most of the time) take bribes and hires companies to use much less than capable materials for kickbacks. Welcome to Communism. |
This has nothing to do with communism bro, bribes happen probably in every country. It is not so easy to protect buildings to earthquakes. Look to Japan it is probably the n°1 in creating anti-Earthquakes buildings but still a lot went down with the earthquake in Kobe.

Does every country have the same magnitude of briberies as those you see in China? Or does every country suppress the flow of information as China?
Yeah, I think it does have a lot to do with Communism. When a building collapsed when it shouldn't have, hundreds died due to bad worksmanship, those aren't natural disaster. Those are preventable. |
Look to the vid I posted. They mention in the video that bridges/buildings collapsed who were made for anti-earthquake purposes and they still fail and then we are speaking about Japan who is probably the n°1 in anti-earthquake technology.
People forget that when a building is trembling it can also collapse by other things like fire...All those TV's/computers/Radio's will fall on the ground and their is a high possibility that they create a fire , a fire that can collapse a building... |
what is the anti-earthquake protection up until? If you go over the max acceptable level, they will collapse.
Somehow we are talking about difference things. Just because an anti-earthquake building went down, how does that have anything to do with a disaster wosen by an incompetent government? |
Ok ok....But you really react now like a lot of people always do. Their is a huge chance that those buildings were made with good materials and still went down. It is way to easy to say 'Oh a anti-Earthquake building went down blame the government!!' it is a normal reaction though.
They also said that the Titanic couldn't sink but it sunk so should we blame the factory?
I have said it before the earthquake must be huge if people could feel it in Bangkok(Thailand) and Beijing. It is really not a high number if their are between 10.000-20.000 deads considering how big it was especially if the epic centre was in a overcrowd population. |
I'm sorry, have you been to China? Or have a good understanding of Chinese government structure?
The epic-centre was nowhere NEAR "over-crowed population", Please restrain about commenting on things you have no idea about. |
Yups I studied in China, My gf is Chinese(see my album), I am a Sinologist and my father in law is a architect in Guangzhou (Guangdong province). So far I see and hear from my parent in law the Chinese are very pride and want to show the world what they can make. If a building goes down that normally shouldn't because it was a anti-earthquake building and the foreing media will know this it will a blow for the Chinese pride and the pride of the government.
The question is, (and I don't know the answer) when were those building made? Where they anti-earthquake at the first place? Does Earthquakes occur their frequently? etc;
|
Since your father in law is an architect in China, maybe you should ask him how developers were able to secure building permits in China? Guandong Province is near Hongkong, but no way is it transparent. Now... if that is the case, how about those in-land provinces?
Wow... Chinese pride? Gosh, too bad they couldn't use that alone to survive an earthquake under those sub-par constructions. I suppose it was the "pride of the government" to constantly keeping outflowing of news undercheck?
I don't doubt the brilliance of Chinese people. I doubt those building itself, This disaster just exposed the 'dark' (although anybody who knew anything about china already knew about it) secret of Chinese government's inner work.
You really think there was "anti-earthquake" buildings in China? In Chengdu and its province? Clearly you don't know much about the country.
