Forums - Gaming - thinking about taking the xbox 360 plunge

First off, congradulations that you want a 360, it's an awesome machine. Secondly, if you have instore credit at GS, do you have that JUST for an Xbox 360? Or can you spend it on like....Just games? If that's the case, there are quite a few stores that are selling 360s far cheaper than $400 for a premium (in the US). Most places are either offering free pack-in titles (Walmart has the Prems + CoD2 or Burnout for the normal price). If you are willing to buy online, there are tons of websites that offfer deals once in awhile. Best Buy was (Last year!) offering 360s + free shipping for $349.95. Now its back upto normal price, but still free shipping (which saves you on taxes if you bought at GS). Also, if your willing to go the refurbished route, geeks.com has refurb Xbox 360 Premiums for $299.95 + $10 shipping http://techbargains.com/query.cfm Check 360 deals. Right now, you can get 25% off any pre-owned game from Gamestop (take that in-store credit even farther!), $299 for a refurb 360, $165 for the 120gb HDD, and about 1000 other things. You'll be making a good move to a 360. Why not get a great online deal while your at it?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Around the Network

Just buy the Xbox 360.

If they still offer the extended warrenty in teh box I'd take that. I purchased it for my son's xbox360 and it was £40 for an extra 3 years cover which is pretty good when you consider the red ring of death can strike at any time. It came in useful when his xbox broke down 1 month out of warrenty, plus it also covers the wireless controller that came in the box. The strange thing is they don't even ask for the broken controller back, they send you a brand ew wireless controller leaving you with the 'broken' one! Srangely enough my son's controller has broken twice and he has received 2 new controllers! :0P

Well, the reason I said I was interested in gamestop was for the Viva Pinata combo (VP is free) for the 399 premium which I didn't see anywhere else. I'm just a bit miffed about a few things on the Xbox, though. First, they have a chip that they must license to others that want to make a controller (port won't unlock without talking to that chip) which means no metal dance pad for my daughter to play on. Second, the wifi connector is a ripoff. BTW, I dont know if gamestop is the same nationwide, but they are doing buy 2 get one free on used games today... Not bad when you are buying 30, 40 and 50 dollar games... I don't know what type of "extended" warranty EB games offers. I'll have to check it out today, but that would be worth it, I think, if they are going to send out a new controller if that fails.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Ok, new twist:  The viva pinata free game deal is only available online -- they won't honor it in store.  Screw em, I'll hunt one down online ELSEWHERE just on principle.   Sheesh, that is dumb of them.  I can't use my store credit online, either.  Man, I wonder sometimes about the intelligence of people running companies these days.
