We have proof that the engine can do one kind of game and that game is Valkyria Chronicles.

If you want to say the engine can do more kinds of games than that, you need to prove it. ^_^

Engines have always (since the NES era) been assumed to be specific to a game/genre until shown otherwise. Traditionally all game engines have been specific to their series. The idea of multi-use engines is actually a fairly new one AFAIK that has only really come into the fore in the last generation.

YOU ARE MAKING THE CLAIM. Stop pretending otherwise.

Settle down there.  Take a deep breath and relax.

I have stated my opinion and nothing more.  If you think my opinion is incorrect, I encourage you to prove otherwise.  If you can't then simply agree to disagree and move on.  Either way this isn't something to get worked up over.

No, if you were just stating it, you would not be insisting it when challenged. Now that we're calling on you for proof, you're pretending it's not that important. If if wasn't important, you should have stated so at the FIRST reply, not just now.

And just because I got upset does not mean you get to pretend you have some high ground here. You don't even know why I was upset.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Hmm okies.  LordTheNightKnight, you're absolutely right about everything and I completely agree with your point of view.

Will that satisfy you so we can go back to discussing this thread productively?

If you aren't going to argue, then don't bring up points you can't defend.

Anyway, I thought you knew that these days, engines are for general development, because they save costs. Thus making an engine for one genre, that Sega isn't even heavy in, would be counterproductive.

If it was Nippon Ichi, then yes that would make sense. Sega is a more general developer, so would thus need a general engine.

I'd argue with you but this is absolutely the wrong thread to be arguing any of the things you want to argue. Please talk about something productive here.

If you want to argue about single/franchise use engines versus flexible engines, do so in another thread.

If I had brought it up, instead, you know, you, that would be a valid point.

The thing is that your claim that CANVAS will only work on SRPGs is faulty, because it would mean Sega would have a whole engine to develop with, and only one genre, that they don't even specialize in.

EDIT: I recognize the old try-to-drop-the-argument-because-you've-been-proven wrong trick.
