since 2007 started Wii = 4.38m units sold PS3 = 1.96m units sold 360 = 1.88m units sold PS3 has actually sold more than the 360!

The margin is that slim between PS3 and 360 for 2007?

Hmm ...

You'd think with the European launch for the PS3, which netted near 800,000 consoles in two weeks, the gap would be much, much bigger.

Yes, the PS3 is selling THAT bad... Pretty soon, the 360 will have sold more than the PS3 in 2007, which is humiliating for Sony considering they just had their EU launch.

Only way to say it is, it's simply amazing the sales the Wii is getting. No matter how you look at it.

Game of the year.

Now Playing: Guitar Hero III (Wii)

By subtracting the totals for all regions at 31 december 2006 from the totals at 27 may 2007 I get the following numbers:

Which puts PS3 and XBox 360 very close to each other and Wii outselling both combined with room to spare.

As I continue to prepare my massive mid year article, I occassionally run into things which are worth discussing right now. Today I noticed the following: Wii will likely hit 5 million sold worldwide (just in 2007) by June 4.

...

For comparison, PS3 will pass 2.25 million this coming week, and 360 will pass 2.1 milion this coming week for the year to date.

...

Microsoft to have sold 2.6 about million 360s, and Sony to have sold 2.45 million PS3s.

I find it amazing that Sony has lost so much momentum. The only reason they are where they are (for this year), is the 1m sold in the Europe launch (and according to the charts, the PS3 has STILL not sold 1m in Europe??).

If you would have told me that the PS3 will only sell 1.5m units in the US AND Japan in the first 6 months of 2007... I would have laughed at you!

That's an average of 20k / week / per territory (US/Japan only).

That's close to what the Wii does in a month (and only limited because of production restrictions).

Even more amazing is if you add Wii + DS + Software. How many product units are they selling a month? I can't wait to see the 2007 1st quarter results.

I can't believe how well the Wii is doing. I was figuring on an even console race this generation but the chances of that happening are slim to none now. I really overestimate the willingness of people to pay over 300 bucks for a game system. At this rate the Wii will hold a larger market share than the PS2 did o_O. Here is an interesting question: Will the Wii sell more software than the PS2 did in it's lifetime? For the amount of systems sold the PS2 really didn't do all that great on software sales, but I think part of that can be attributed to about 1/3 of PS2 owners having to replace theirs at least once (twice for me). This is unlikely to be the case with the Wii as Nintendo systems are all built to last (I still have every original Nintendo system ever made, minus the virtual boy). The Wii won't outsell the PS2 in hardware, but how are the chances that it will in software?

The Wii will outsell the PS2 in hardware.

Chances for outselling the PS2 in software are realistic.

Well I mean overall.  The Wii will likely outpace the PS2 in hardware for the next year or 2 but then the PS2 took off with price cuts and people replacing broken systems (that's around the time I replaced my first one).

Braces for the MS fanboy backlash when the Wii outsells the 360.

Oh you KNOW it's coming. That's why I get so much flak for my Wii ascends to #1 spot in July foretellings.

And it will get MUCH worse by Holiday period when Wii's making record breaking showings back to back.

My stance remains for end of 2007 total accumulated worldwide sales:

Wii - At LEAST 20 million. It will be NO less I guarantee you and my best case scenario is actually 24 million.

XBox 360 - in the 13 million range. At best case scenario it will just miss the 14 million mark but not quite break the 14 million threshhold.

PS3 - Just past the 7 million mark AT BEST. This was my HIGHLY OPTIMISTIC best case scenario and I didn't bother adding in my moderate or worse case scenario because PS3's been beaten up on enough around here.

I put that in the prediction leagues so we'll see who called it right then. I never wait for which way the wind blows to make my callings. I sort of feel that's weak and cowardly. I prefer to stand alone against the wind like in a Michael Jackson video and have people slowly realize I was correct. And that's the sweetest reward.

X360 will have more than 14 million....And that because of Halo 3.
Wii 20 million not sure because doesn't Nintendo said they can only produce 1.2 million Wii's every month?
7 months X 1.2 million = 8.4 million  Around 17 million.
PS3 I guess will have more than 7 million because of the games that will come and you forget the Christmas period.

Comparing yourself to Michael Jackson is not the way to get people to stop calling the Wii kiddy >_>
