giving 1080p resolution to consoles that can't even handle them properly(ps360) which makes it useless option.

The worst gaming mistake was when Nintendo back stabbed Sony and went with Phillips to made their CD drive. That alone caused 2 generations of ownage, and image what the industry would be like if Sony and Nintendo were allied...@_@.

The original Game Boy did sell fairly well, and came close to matching the NES' sales before it was finally discontinued and replaced with the Game Boy Pocket. From 1991 to 1997, however, it had the Game Gear competing against it. In the peak years, the combined hardware and software share between the two hovered somewhere around 75% Game Boy/25% Game Gear, the closest any handheld ever came to overthrowing the Game Boy. Similarly, the PSP is currently hovering around 25% hardware/software-combined market share to the DS's 75%.
so you are comparing the Game Gear to the PSP? lol
He is stating factual comparisons between the two.  If all you have to say is "lol", then I'd think that either you agree that the facts are correct and find it funny, or you are very threatened by the comparison but cannot find any point of fact to disagree with.  I know which one I'd bet on.

plenty of games handle it well. You are so uninformed.

keep in mind, the ds is going to be the #1 selling system of all times, the psp having 30% share is very nice. The GG was a failure.

1. $599 ---- Lost SONY momentum at launch.///that momentum has come back now BUT they needed it at launch as they were the last to launch this time.

2. RROD --- One of the reasons M$ couldn't kill of the PS3 in SONY's God-Awful 06/07

3. ET on Atari --- Responsible for VG crash//

4. Virtual Boy --- Will shame nintendo to their grave..uh I mean eternal life (ninty can never die!!)

_______

One I DO NOT agree with are...

Ninty backstabbing SONY..it was bad for ninty but whatever People say PLAYSTATION popularized gamin in a way WII is further popularizing it now..

Blu-Ray for PS3 ---- this may be the reason we are seeing high PS3 sales in NA

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

@PSrock

considering the PSP is the first non-nintendo handheld to not result in the founding company going bankrupt within a year of its launch says A LOT!

There's a lot of similarities between the two, actually. Not just in sales trends, but in design decisions and end results as well. Both relied on a "better" screen and "more" controls than their competitors, as well as a more impressive sound processor, at the cost of battery life. Both have a larger physical size and weight than their direct competition (though not by a huge margin in either case). Both have screens noted for having ghosting issues. Both were marketed as a "better option" to the Game Boy line. Both prominently featured ports from previous systems and were similar to those previous systems (the GG is basically a beefed up portable Master System; the PSP is basically a beefed up portable PS1). And both garnered less than stellar software sales (in that regard, though, Game Gear actually outclassed the PSP, mostly because pirating GG games was not at all easy in the time of its market presence).
I thought that the Game Boy and Game Gear had the same controls: D-pad and two buttons.  In fact, the Game Boy had both "Start" and "Select" buttons while the Game Gear only had "Start", so it would be pretty hard to argue that it had more controls.

I also had heard that the PSP was/is more comparable to the PS2 than to the PS1, though that is just hearsay on my part.  Are you sure you're right there?

Making up facts doesn't make them true. He says 60 million for GB when GG died. Ok. 6 to 1. It's currently a litle more than 2 to 1. Yes, that's only hardware. You can't sell software without hardware. Find me software numbers that back up these ridiculous claims that GG sold so much software. Also, he claims "everything is selling better now" to account for the PSP outseling N64 now and outsellling GG 3 to 1 and still going strong, outselling EVERY system in Japan recently. Well, the DS is selling faster than any system ever, but it's not sellling 3 times as fast. The PSP is far and away more successful than the Game Gear. To say otherwise is just lying.

The PSP does still have a chance to push further into overall market presence; this year has been a good year for it in that regard, as the average has been tipping over the 25% mark. As it stands at the moment, however, its comparative success to the Game Gear's peak year vs. the Game Boy is roughly the same. We clearly haven't yet seen the PSP's peak year vs. the DS (or possibly not in its entirety; it depends greatly on how well the PSP can keep its sales elevated).

That aside, the main point is that the PSP is no more a failure than the Game Gear was. Both garnered a considerable amount of attention in their prime (which the PSP is still in), and both were noteworthy competitors for managing to gain such a huge portion of the market compared to the other systems not holding first place. However, neither has managed to be a full-on competitor to the market leader.
