Forums - Gaming - Worst Mistakes in Gaming

The PSP is not technically a failure, it's true. However, for combined market share (ie. software and hardware), it is no better a competitor against the DS than the Sega Game Gear was against the original Game Boy.

I don't see Blu-Ray as a killing blow at all yet. Admittidly, it may have been a much quicker rush than the adaptation of DVD for the standard, since it was essentially blu-ray's introduction, but at least with UMD, you can now buy those movies for 3 for a buck.

Blu-Ray's still cost 40 bucks, people still think it's worthwhile, it could drown and turn out to be a mistake, but it's been floating quite nicely for now.

But the biggest mistake? Allowing installable and thus patchable software on multiple SKus and systems. I'm of the opinion that is only going to get worse and worse.

Yes, but hardware isn't the problem.  All Sony has to do is rectify the software problem, and they're good.  The PSP2 will compete much better next time around, Sony will learn from their mistakes.

N64 not goin CD drive and abandoning 3rd party support

Gamecube... though i love that piece of hardware, the small CD's, to the purple color, and the lack of 3rd party titles... all a big mess

599 dollars PS3, plus delaying their exclusive games. This gave the Wii a headstart, and that has shaken off any possibility of PS3 winning this console generation

The Wii.

Easily the worst console ever from Nintendo.
Remember when we said you should only be allowed to post in the Smash Bros thread... that's exactly the reason why...

That's absolutely false. 119, 71, 33, 10.5. Those are the hardware numbers (on this site) for Gameboy, DS, PSP, and Gamegear. It's not even close to the same. Perspective: The PSP passed the N64 in hardware sales (hence Nintendo's mistakes being far worse in generation). The GG sold less than half as much as the Xbox and Gamecube, 2 console that went up against the most successful console ever, a title the DS will have for portables.

I said COMBINED market share, not hardware-only market share. And anyway, Game Gear was discontinued long before Game Boy hit near-120mil. That hardware total includes Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color, lines which were established after the Game Gear was taken off shelves. It would be a bit like comparing N64 sales to PS1 and PS2 sales combined, in that regard.

Could you not play color games on an old gameboy? Just curious, I never had one. The PS2 of Gameboy is GBA. Also, I'm sure with 3 times the hardware that the PSP is selling more software than the Gamegear. Come on. God of War and Crisis Core alone. Edit: Also, split Gameboy 3 ways, and it's still 40 million to 10 million. 4 to 1. Versus slightly over 2 to 1 DS and PSP. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

No mentions for E.T. on Atari 2600? Shame on you people.
