Oops.

Well, I was right about Trip Hawkins.

And strange that it took so many posts to note the Nintendo fail. If they had gone along with Sony then, Ninti fanboys would have their own army by now.
Backing out of the agreement wasn't what made it a colossal blunder -- apparently the contract gave Sony huge rights or royalties or something over the software that would go on the CD add-on.  It was the way Nintendo handled it that was terrible and possibly goaded Sony into doing what they did.  And then doing it all again with Philips.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

The biggest mistake in gaming was teaching me to play games. Shit ruined my life.

As far as I know, the reason why Nintendo backed out of the contract with Philips was that they saw the Sega CD flopping and thus there wasn't any need for a CD add-on anymore.

However, Nintendo had to give something to Philips for backing out of the contract which resulted in Philips being allowed to make some Zelda games for their own system, the cd-i. At least that seems to be the most reasonable explanation why these horrible games exist.

Hum...interesting theory. Makes sense. Still counts a big mistake for Nintendo at not realizing the difference between an add-on with little support and a new system. They went to 2 different companies for a disc solution before just giving up...

I think UMD is far worse that RRoD, my xbox hasn't died yet, but over half of my psp UMD's break when I play them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTf***!!!!!!! SONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHHAHGAGGHGGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

I think one of the worst mistake for the dreamcast was not getting enough third party support from devs such as EA. Right then people pretty much knew the DC was going to be shortlived.

Does that really count as a "mistake" though?  It's not as if Sega said, "third parties? Pfft, who needs 'em!"  (That would be Nintendo, haw haw.)

1 _ Legend of Zelda in Philips cd-i big huge mistake.
2 _ No Final Fantasy Title in N64 another big huge mistake.
3 _ Denyin' the 2D games in N64 another big huge mistake.
4 _ MicroSoft entrence in gamin' Industry big huge mistake toooooooooo. lol

XBox 360 = huge mistake. RROD issue + lack of internal HD DVD drive + lack of install game option onto HD

^360 without those mistakes would of had much higher sales by now, I assume around 35 million consoles sold LTD.

HD DVD should of been the standard drive within every 360 from the start. This was Microsoft and Toshiba's biggest mistake. HD DVD's were as cheap to produce as standard DVD's. Trying to sell HD DVD's for $30US each was stupid. MS shot itself in the foot. imagine a year ago, if there was 10 million HD DVD 360's available compared to the PS3's 2.8 million Blu-Ray Players. It could of been a different scenario and HD DVD's would still be in the market. MS seriously dropped the ball. This is IMO a much bigger mistake than RROD.
HD DVD drive as an add-on was doomed from the beginning. Add-ons always fail, no one likes paying extra for something that should of been included within the console to start off with.
Blu-Rays are in their early stages. HD DVD's had faster load times and HD Drives were 16 speed compared to the Blu-Ray. Storage capacity for both Blu-Ray and HD DVD are around the same. HD DVD games could of fitted 20GB games on a disc, matching PS3's Blu-Ray Discs.
HD DVD's are now a thing of the past.
