What is your list of the worst mistakes made in gaming? So many to choose from, but what is your list?

Mine is...

1. Virtual Boy
2. Nintendo saying "screw off" to third party developers with the N64.
3. Sega abandoning Saturn third party support in favor of forcing the Dreamcast.
4. Capcom disolving Clover Studios
5. Blu-Ray as the standard for the PS3
6. UMD

I know, not much of a list, but maybe you can do me one better.

1.- Virtual Boy

2.- The Ninty-Mafia of the 90s

3.- Dev cost and price of the PS3

4.- The Cell

5.- EA

6.- RRoD

7.- UMD

8.- The dev apathy towards the Wii (can be fixed)

You put the Cell ahead of RROD? Wow.

Around the Network

1. RROD
2. EA's BS Security for Mass Effect and Spore (still being boycotted)
3. PC gaming being treated as trash (Valve is slowly solving)
4. EA trying to take over the game industry.
5. Nintendo firing Sony; Sony won 2 generations thanks to their screw up
6. The N-Gage
7. Intellivision controller
8. Sega abandoning hardware (32x, SEGA CD, etc)
9. This whole generation of whiny ass gamers (thanks Nini just what gaming needed)
10. Friend-codes

LOL. That is rather odd. While I think the Cell was a mistake, it doesn't deserve to be on the list while the RRoD was a pretty big fuck-up by MS.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

1. Virtual Boy/Gamecube

2. Expensive ass PS3

3. RRoD - Make sure your product works before you sell it

4. 3DO...'nuff said

5. UMD. the movies failed, and for games its all right but loads as slow as hell.

6. No 3rd party support for Wii. The reason i won't get one (mario doesn't do it for me)

The biggest mistake in gaming is the establishment of the current developer/publisher business model.

Most developers can't afford to make the IP's they want and publishers retain IP rights.

Thee lack of Ngage talk is just shocking.

Plenty? Name them.

Most PSN games as far as I know. Wipeout HD wll be 1080p/60fps. All Blu-ray movies released now. The statement itself is flawed, though, because the console-makers didn't "give 1080p to consoles that can't even handle hem properly." All they did was up the power to handle more of everything. If that means 1080p and 30fps, then great. If it means 720p/30fps with a ton of detail, then great. If it means every downloadable game is 1080p, awesome. A game doesn't have to be 1080p to be much better looking visually, but saying no game takes advantage of it is nonsense. It's not a feature, it's an ability of the PS3 and 360, especially the PS3 with so much space available.

Games that aren't rich in graphical detail maybe. For those full on games though waron is absolutely right, the 360 and PS3 both can't handle full 1080p without struggling when it comes to those cinematic kinda games. The 360 has it a little better off but the PS3's inferior GPU and lesser ammount of memory really makes it chugg.

To sum it up though waron is right, neither the 360 or PS3 are powerful enough to handle truly spectacular visual treats at 1080p. Hell developers need to get 720p nailed first and we're even having to see upscaled resolutions to achieve that.

The phrase 'Full HD' is nothing but a marketing line for some publishers these days.

I already responded to this in my post above, but you also claim the PS3 has less memory than the 360, when both have 512mb. The graphics chips are about equal, and the processing power on PS3 is much higher. Not every game has to be 1080p, but a lot are. All Waron (who I'm noticing usually has 1-line comments to troll, but that's another topic) is saying is that there should be no HDMI output. Afterall, it's only needed for 1080 movie playback. Component also does 1080p, though, so techncally the PS2 and Xbox also had "1080p capability." That would mean so does the Wii. That doesn't mean you have to use it for every game. Again, 1080p isn't some feature that had to be added, it's merely an optional resolution available because of the hardware power. It's not something Sony and Microsoft could take away. It's just a pointless statement from Waron. Edit: It's neither something that was "given" nor something that is "useless." His 1-line statement is false in 2 ways.

Movies aren't games so please don't use them in a discussion in regards to the capabilities of a console.

the 3rd parties left Nintendo because Nintendo were awful to them. You reap what you sow.
