Forums - Gaming - Worst Mistakes in Gaming

What is your list of the worst mistakes made in gaming? So many to choose from, but what is your list?

Mine is...

1. Virtual Boy
2. Nintendo saying "screw off" to third party developers with the N64.
3. Sega abandoning Saturn third party support in favor of forcing the Dreamcast.
4. Capcom disolving Clover Studios
5. Blu-Ray as the standard for the PS3
6. UMD

I know, not much of a list, but maybe you can do me one better.

blu-ray wouldn't be in my top 20. UMD isn't that bad, it's just that the movies cost too much at first. Load times aren't the best, either. Can't really argue against it being in a top 10, I guess.

Blu-ray will be great for gaming. Developers are already filling up discs.

I'd add: Sega CD, 32X, too much shovelware during Atari days, Philips cd-i, neo geo, Jaguar

Take a look at this thread...similar idea about mistakes companies made with consoles

Were Blu-Ray's small benefits to gaming worth seeing the PS3 destroyed at launch and losing the lion share of its once treasured third party exclusivity to the 360 and Wii? Whether its a good choice or not for gaming, it severly damaged the PS3 and halted the momentum of the Sony brand thus was a huge mistake.

I suppose UMD isn't that high, but I was trying to round out a list.

1. $599 for ps3
2. virtual boy
3. nintendo not going to cd drive\
4. 360 hardware issues\
5. ps3 not going after 3rd party support exclusives.

RRoD not on the list?? 1.1 billion cash sitting aside, + millions already spent on repairing.

Seems pretty big mistake to me

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

1.- Virtual Boy

2.- The Ninty-Mafia of the 90s

3.- Dev cost and price of the PS3

4.- The Cell

5.- EA

6.- RRoD

7.- UMD

8.- The dev apathy towards the Wii (can be fixed)

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

Yeah, well that's why I was waiting for other people to add to it. I can't remember everything, but yeah, RROD would probably be a good sixth place mistake right beneath Blu-Ray.

I'm surprised no one said it yet but quite possibly the biggest mistake ever in gaming is Nintendo, Philips and Sony not joining forces in originally developing a CD addon for the SNES.

That pretty much directly lead to the birth of the Playstation and the 2 generation asskicking for Nintendo. At the same time though it directly lead to Nintendo's new way of thinking and the state they're in now so in hindsight... who knows heh!
