Forums - Sales - When will see next price cuts for the PS3 and 360 in the USA?

Before Christmas. The PS3 is still too young and too expensive, and just hasn't hit "the wall" in terms of how low the prices can go given future drops in chip sizes, manufacturing breakthroughs (like the slimming down of the BD drive), and the fact Sony will be getting some mad money from MS if the 360 does indeed put a BD drive in it.

This is just in....in the new issue of Computer Power Users, Howard Stringer says that the BD players could be $300 by the end of the year.....and possibly $199 by the end of 2009...and because a significant portion of the PS3 is tied up w/ its BD capabilities, I would imagine that the ability to make cheaper BD players would mean that cheaper PS3s could be made.

I think the reason microsoft hasn't dropped the price yet is three fold.

1: They're gunning for profitability

2: The weak US economy could be forcing them to keep the price high

3: The 360 has lots of great games coming out this year which will increase sales so there's no point in dropping the price just yet. Consider the 360 was already doing better then last year even before the release of GTA4. With Gears 2, halo wars, banjo, fable 2 etc all getting releases this year, sales will only increase further. If Microsoft was going to drop their price, they would have a long time ago.

If they do drop the price this year its probably going to be with the release of Gears or during a time when the ps3 is getting a major exclusive or something.
