Any failure rate above 2% or so is unacceptable. Infact, any failure rate at all is unacceptable.

You pay for a product, you don't expect it to break.

You must be a very disappointed consumer if you expect products to never fail.

No, we aren't. We buy a product for a good use and expect it to last a good while. We don't expect to buy a product and have it DIE on the first day, like what may happen for an X360 model. HD consoles are supposed to be reliable for their cost, but obviously it isn't. You have to do research on a product before buying one. I fell into a trap when I bought a Toshiba laptop. I experienced first-hand when I had that thing die on me for my second year. Their laptops are pieces of shit, hence why they are called Toshitba computers. They are built for power, but degrade faster. Plus, the laptop model I bought was discontinued a year before I bought it at the store; how did I know? When trying to update the firmware, it was stopped at the spring of 2005; I bought it in the summer of 2006.

I wonder if the production costs of the 360 will be reduced with the new Jasper chip? This will mean more profit for MS with every console sold. Cheaper production costs will also mean the selling price of the console will be reduced. Cheaper production of consoles will obviously result in price cuts in all regions that will further boost sales.

This and exclusives might help them pick up the pace. Only thing holding down 360's reputation is RRoD.

i think that without RRoD 1 year head start would have been almost impossible for PS3 to recover.

X360 is still held down by RRoD (i still haven't bought one for this reason) and 1 Billion dollars invested by MS to extend warranty surely didn't help MS to fight the "price war" more aggressively. Without RRoD probably by now x360 would cost 199$...

Not quite, but I get the point. The fact is that MS could've gained a much bigger profit if not for RRoD. Who knows it may have got back what they have lost with the original xbox.

Agreed.  However, Q_A_X said "any failure rate at  all is unacceptable."  Demanding a zero failure rate scenario is fantasy land.  Demanding a reasonable failure rate and decent warranty is understandable.

its about time they fixed the RROD, im on my 3rd 360, i am not buying another one if this one fails.

If the 360 had a failure rate of 33%!, That means out of all 18 million sold, BOD, 4 million broke. So they sold 18 mil. systems, but technically, only 14 mil actually worked right. My friend told me got RRoD yesterday. He had his 360 for 2 years and never played for more than 3 hours a week for the 1st year he had it. His brother played it the 2nd year for the same amount of time and it bricked 2 months ago. IDK about you guys, but I don't like living in fear while playing GeOW hoping my system won't crash on me. I shouldn't limit my time so that something that I paid MONEY for doesn't break at random. I've had my N64 for 11 years, still runs like bath water.

No, the XBOX360 had a 100% failure rate, see here Http://www.crn.com.au/News/55747,microsoft-facing-us115bn-xbox-360-repair-bill.aspx

I'll put the important part (this was of course written about a year ago. However, the changes made to the system werent implemented for a while, so you guys can figure out how many millions of XBOX360s are faulty.

 QOUTE

Software giant admits there are 11.6 million faulty consoles sold in the past 19 months, will have to be fixed.

Microsoft has admitted that every one of the 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles sold in the past 19 months suffers from a design flaw that could cause the device to fail.

So that really means that more then 50% (at least) of their current installed base is likely subject to RRoD.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"Why post something like this when all it will get is PS3 owners blinded to reality replying? BOTH THE PS3 AND BLUE-RAY WILL NOT LAST 3 YEARS! TECHNOLOGY CHANGED TOO FAST!"

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"
