Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 slim in 2009?

Wow. Would be huge if it happens, and is ultra-reliable. Could start selling in Japan if they took interest, and had a relevant market push there like what the PSP Slim + MHP2 did in Japan (afterall, since the Slim launched, Japan H/W has never been the same. The PSP has owned the DS every week since)

No disrespect, but there are many things wrong with what you just posted here. Even if the 360 got a redesign, it wouldn't matter to the Japanese if GAMES didn't come along with it. The Japanese market is pretty fickle about things and the reputation the 360 has established in Japan cannot be fixed with a redesign for their current console. As for the PSP issue, the DS is only getting "owned" by the PSP right now because the high sales of the DS have hit a saturation point. 20+ million DS have been sold over there already, and there hasn't been a truly big, marketed game release for a little while. People might not even use their PSPs to play games on it, seeing its multimedia. The software sales of the PSP are somewhat troubling because they don't match the HW like they should. Some say that when the Dragon Quest game is released, it will cause a spike in DS similar to (but not as strong as) Monster Hunter for the PSP. The Japanese have chosen their system, and its the Wii, until PS3 proves otherwise. An Xbox redesign won't create much change at all.

Wow, MS sure knows how to take a page out of everyone else's book.

Wii-mote knock-off? Check.

Slim refiguration? Check.

Wii-Fit knock-off? Check.

Why aren't you also bashing Sony for copying (w/the slim models)what others had done before? The original NES was released later as a smaller unit. The Sega Genesis also had a smaller/lighter unit released(ver. 2) and the Super NES also had a smaller/lighter unit released. That's not even counting all of the smaller/lighter portable systems Nintendo put out.GB->GB Pocket->GB Color, etc.

As for the OP, I think a slim 360 would definitely help out sales, as well as ease any tensions people may have about the RROD. A far better time to release it would be late 08 or early 09, to really help out.

Exactly, Sony/Nintendo had done it with all previous systems, but MS didn't do it with the Original XBOX. You've proven my point

Nintendo did it waaaay before Sony. Sega did it way before Sony, too. Sony copied them (is what you could also say, right?)

Wasn't MS having problems with Intel and Nvidia regarding the cpu and gpu? There were never really any improvements to the system because of those problems and MS ended up killing off the original Xbox in favor of the 360 because of that. With the 360 MS has been continually improving on the internals of the 360 since it was released and the natural evolution of that is to make the components smaller and in a smaller package to reduce costs(as Nintendo, Sega, etc. did before)

/\/\/\well a fanboy had to come in the thread eventually...
who cares a slim version would be good I doubt it would do much for japan but even a tiny boost would help ova there...

Well duh. PS1 wasn't out when the NES/Gen was, so obviously they were first. But MS didnt do it with the XB, but now want to.

Why is no one talking about my X-mote argument?

This could be interesting. Xbox 360 + more reliability (maybe they could even make it quieter)= more awesomeness.

I've always said a total redesign is the only thing that can solve the current hardware problems. I hope this is true; that would mean me buying a 360 in the future is more likely.

Perhaps it won't revolutionize the market, but it shouldn't hurt.
Given the even more cramped innards, it will need a metal case, though.

Hopefully they will be able to fully test the hardware before release this time
