Nintendo did it waaaay before Sony. Sega did it way before Sony, too. Sony copied them (is what you could also say, right?)

Wasn't MS having problems with Intel and Nvidia regarding the cpu and gpu? There were never really any improvements to the system because of those problems and MS ended up killing off the original Xbox in favor of the 360 because of that. With the 360 MS has been continually improving on the internals of the 360 since it was released and the natural evolution of that is to make the components smaller and in a smaller package to reduce costs(as Nintendo, Sega, etc. did before)
