Forums - Gaming - Classic Franchises That Need to Die and Dead Ones that Need New Life

This is what my process of elimination used to be: 1. Franchise must be in the list of top 20 best selling franchises of all time. 2. Games must be platformers, excluding the Mario Kart games, and Super Smash Bros. games. 3. Games must be million-sellers. 4. Games must have recieved reviews of 80% or higher. 5. Games are to be rated E, or T only. 6. Games must be first party. But as time passes, I grew older, and now I buy a much, wider variety of games, including M rated games, but my selection is still extremely limited.

Why isn't Sonic on the list to farking die? It gets more and more pathetic, should have never went 3D.

Edit: And why do you just skip past Mario? You have the nerve to say Squeenix just uses the FF name to sell and yet you let Nintendo slide on HOW MANY Mario games? Come on, own up to it, you know I'm right.

I totally agree on snow bros. I used to play it on a black and white tv for hours. I heart that game.

saying FF should be left alone kinda pissed me off. The series just started moving in a new direction and you want it gone. the same w/ RE. and God of War has only just begun and I enjoyed the 2nd better than the 1st. argh... Chrono Trigger should be revived and that is all I can think of right now.

Posts like this serve no purpose at all.

He's right BTW, Starfox and SF64 were great games, and then it went to crap.  I made the sad mistake of buying Starfox Adventures for my Gamecube, but they won't fool me twice.  I'd love to see a new good Starfox game though.

There's a reason Square-Enix are remaking all the old FF games, they're more fun to play than the new ones!

Gradius hasn't exactly taken a rest, Gradius V came out just two years ago I think, and was fantastic.  Wouldn't mind seeing more Gradius in the future, especially with Treasure at the helm.

I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but I'd like to see 3D fighting games die.  Yes, that's right, I hate Tekken, Virtual Fighter, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, all of that stuff.  These games destroyed classic 2D fighters that we all know and love.

Which one of the remakes did better than any original? More fun or just cheap cash cows?

I'm not sure if you're talking to me, but I'll respond.

I was tempted to throw Sonic on there... It was close. Secret Rings showed a bit of potential and their 2D games are still solid so I left the hedgehog off the list.

I don't play most of the Mario games so I can't really comment on them... But I did put Mario Party on the list. That franchise is just getting annoying now. But the classic Mario series and the Mario Kart series are still solid, probably because they only release one game in each franchise every console generation.

Still, SE needs to back off the whoring out of the FF series... How many games are coming out for XIII? Four? That's friggin' ridiculous.

Yeah I heard that Secret Rings was decent, but after my experience with Shadow the Hedgehog... o_O what was that steaming pile of $@!*%&!

I was more or less talking about putting Mario in every other game they put out, does he really need to be in the olympics? Super Papr Mario does look good and my brother is enjoying it.

As for the whole FF franchise, the stories are seldom connected, each one is more like it's own franchise. Or maybe set of franchises, like all the ones that happen in the same area should be titled similarily and what not. I think it has more to do with the style of gameplay and yes brand recognition with the whole jrpgs thing.

The one on the first list I must really disagree with is Rayman. Platformers  seem to be getting ignored this Gen, and Rayman is one of the best. As awesome as Rayman Raving Rabbids was, it really doesn't count, as it was more a Rabbids game than anything else. I'd love to see a cross platform Rayman game.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

It's called an opinion.  I'm not even really sure what your point is with that question; a remake doesn't have to do better than a sequel to prove that the older ones are better.  Regardless of that, "better" is an opinion, and one that I don't necessarily have to share with everyone else.
