Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit Launch sponsoring Heart Foundation - will it give it legs?

Nintendo is taking gamers out to the park for the launch of Wii Fit. Nintendo, along with the American Heart Association, will be hosting a launch event for Wii Fit in Central Park this coming Monday, May 19th. The event will take place at New York's Central Park Merchants' Gate from 8am to 5pm.

Gamers (and soon to be gamers) will get to try out Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board. The event also marks National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Nintendo will be making donations to the American Heart Association.

From Nintendo: "For every attendee who "gets on board" for a Wii Fit demo, Nintendo will make a donation of $5 (up to $25,000 total) to the American Heart Association in support of its effort to help Americans live healthier. Expect crowds of people throughout the day, plus an appearance by celebrity trainer Ashley Borden."

So if you'll be in New York City, go and check out Wii Fit. The event starts at 8am on Monday, May 19th, at the intersection of Central Park West, Central Park South, Columbus Circle and Broadway in Manhattan.

Will this type of event give Wii Fit legs or not - there's guaranteed to be a vast amount of people who like the concept but aren't convinced it'll work, will they give it a try for charity and if so will it convince them to buy? 

I Expect Nintendo to have these days regulary (probably roadshows etc) to try and keep demand up but will it work?

This has to be one of the most brilliant marketing ideas ever. Hey, try out our fun new product that can really help you get in shape. Not only is it fun, but it'll result in money going to a good cause!

There is absolutely no reason to turn down giving it a try.

kudos to Nintendo for this. This is just the kind of marketing wiifit needs to truly be a phenomenon (sp?)

i wished i lived in NY
why cant they put a nintendo-center
here in sunny Los Angeles???

I still think this would be better suited if they offered to pay $5 per journalist to give it a go - thats a lot of press you'd get for that $5.  Still must be great to know your product is that good where all you have to do is bribe people to give it a go.

only 25k ? a little on the cheap side.

other than that...i am not sure this particular stunt will produce any noticeable benefit. a series of events with several charities might have been better.

Not really, I can see why the cap it... I mean, that is just for if you take the free demo. You don't have to buy one.

If they donated another $5 for every one sold without a cap, that would be cool.
