Forums - Sony - Haze Demo

I thought the demo was solid, not spectacular, but enough to keep me intrigued to consider the full game.

My take on demo's is this : they are like the chinese food places at malls that hand out samples on toothpicks...if people treated them like game demos, we would assume that all the food from there was cut into squares and served on toothpicks, and it was all Grandfathers chicken, all day.   There will be more to the game, it will be better looking, and playing, and probably be pretty good.

I thought the low resolution of the game (576p, not 720p) combined with some rather muddy texture actually hindered gameplay. Why? Because they make it hard to spot enemies when you don't have the nectar active. What's it going to be like when you're Promise Hand and you don't have the nectar to light people up?

I've read that this might be a demo from a year ago (which is kinda weird). I'd like to believe so because recent screenshots have been so much better than ANYTHING in the demo. I'd hate to think that Free Radical is trying to sell their game on nothing but bullshots.

I look forward to reviews.

Sigh, the game is output as 720p, next time you play the game check the source resolution of your TV and you'll see for your self it's 720p.

The 576p resolution stuff going around the net is only the internal frame buffer , which gets internally scaled to 720p before leaving your PS3 (which is something you wouldn't have known if it wasn't for Quaz51), so as long as you have your PS3 set to output 720p and up, then the game will be output at 720p.

The only time the game will be output at 576 is if you set your tv to only output at the minmum resolution which is 576 and that's if you have it plugged into a CRT tv.

I thought that too, but then figured that given the games premise that had to be the case.  For the game to work you need to want to use Nectar at first - so it makes sense that initially you really do need to use it to do well.

Of course when things are reveresed you need to be able to function without Nectar - and how that will work is less clear at this point... although I suspect its why Mantel troops are wearing a fair amount of bright yellow and have 'shoot me here' bright yellow visors - and of course I'm curious about the whole 'play dead' trick as it implies an overall sneakier life as a rebel, with the focus on getting close, using traps, etc. to turn Nectar from an advantage to a liability.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Aah yes another FPS game to help demonstrate once again that the worlds problems can be solved with guns and mindless violence if only life were so easy as this guess thats why games are fun . These games are so weak at any real level it's really dissapointing and the main feature of aiming and shooting is awkward and slow.
They could have at least have allowed the player to use a mouse instead it once again helps demonstrate the superiority of the PC over the console with their antiquated thumbstick controllers.

Wow, thanks for that reminder, stephen700. Please e-mail developers.

Im hoping EA launches a United Nations simulator where peace treaties can be peacefully negotiated, that would be hours of fun.

considering that the demo only let's you play as a mantel solider, you would expect it to be easy and 'generic'. but i'm guessing (or hoping) that once you turn AGAINST the mantel soldiers, the gameplay will be much more challenging. as you don't have nectar anymore.

Ok since I've been following this game for quite some time, I'm going to go into some presumable less known details about this game and Nectar primarily. There seems to be some strange doubts on points that are less-than-obviously amazing (IMHO).

Nectar makes everything easy for a reason :P Playing without the nectar is damn near impossible, it's hard to find the enemies, you don't get the additional zoom, and you have far less "auto aim", on top of the fact that you don't get the armor or speed bonus, Nectar is making a digital attempt at getting you addicted, and in that regard I think they did a FANTASTIC job. I really feel like less of a player without it. Nectar does a few weird things though that tie into the story, some you guys may have noticed, some you might not have.

Nectar makes your vision of reality quite different than what it really is. You guys may have noticed random white butterfly's in the air, thats what corpses become when you kill them :P Nectar makes bodies disappear to keep the mantel troops version of death "under wraps" and far less questionable in terms of choosing right and wrong. When the pilot of the ship first sees you, the first question he asks you is if you can see him, as I mentioned earlier when the body dies it disappears, this is more of a "doubts" situation.

Some of you guys noticed that rock during the Nectar disruption :P Throughout the coarse of the game, the main character's body will randomly fight the influence of nectar, this causes him to briefly see the world for what it really is, as in the case of the rock, there was a charred body screaming in pain, but because of the nectar is just seemed like a bunch of destroyed rubble :P When asked to the other soldier he played it off as "animal noises", he's obviously sippin the juice ;/

As a rebel troop, you'll get the ability to play dead, now at first I thought it was a pretty lame concept, but after hearing about the effects of nectar, taking a few bullets, and playing dead will make your corpse disappear and give the enemy that quick nectar boost making it feel like a kill on his end, this plays to your advantage because you can spring up and make him Overdose :P Making him an enemy to EVERYONE including himself, (any of you guys seen the grenade while O.D ing? :D )

As a mantel trooper you can take additional nectar doses from your allies, but as a Rebel, you can take the nectar packs off your dead enemies and create nectar grenades, or lather your knife in the stuff to easily make the enemies overdose, as a rebel you'll be lying in ambush far more often and you'll most certainly be playing the overdose as a very viable weakness on your enemies behalf, keep in mind, all of this is in the multi-player as well :D

I can't confirm this info, but apparently while on nectar, your body fights off apparent feeling of weakness, I've heard there is a scene later in the game where shane (the main character) has a disrpution while looking at one of his allies, and his body is ravished, he's bleeding badly from his face, his armor is FUBAR, and he's breathing very heavily, your disruption ends and the soldier appears just fine, your partner is even making witty/rediculous comments still. This is supposedly one of the many factors that makes Shane question Mantel.
