Forums - Gaming - "Expert" Predictions They Wish You Would Forget

This one is a pretty good prediction.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/12/10/analysts-continue-optimistic-predictions-ps3-to-meet-wii-sales/

I especially like how the PS3 nearly triples its sales amounts to catch the Wii.

This one is also a great one:

According to this graph, the only way the PS3 can pass the Wii is if 10% of all Wii owners give their Wii's back to Nintendo.

Daiwa Institute of Research senior analystsDefibaugh and Maeda both think the PlayStation 3 will have half of the market in the worldwide next-generation console war by the end of 2006, followed by the Xbox 360 at 30 percent, and the Revolution at 20 percent.

Wii will sell 11 Million by 2011

Boston-based research firm Yankee Group predicts that the PS3 will capture 44 percent of cumulative console sales in North America by 2011, with 30 million units sold. Microsoft is expected to sell nearly 27 million units, taking up 40 percent of the market, while the Wii is forecasted to sell a little over 11 million units, accounting for just 16 percent of the market.

"Nintendo's Revolution will be its last console; it's a two-horse race right now." Michael Wallace

"Nintendo has not had a successful machine for the last 10 years, so for us analysts it is quite difficult to imagine a scenario where Nintendo is actually going to win. But for me right now, especially in Japan at least, Nintendo does seem to have the upper hand." Hiroshi Kamide, director of the research department at KBC Securities

This last guy is not only off on his prediction but his history. 'Not a succesful machine for the last 10 years" means he has never heard the the GBA or the DS

When was this prediction made? If it was pre launch then good lord we might actually have someone with a halfway open mind!

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

Pretty much no one did believe but there was an exception. At an E3 or some such show, a senior Sony executive saw the first demonstration of the motion controller and in an interview immediately after (for which he got in serious trouble) he told the interviewer, "if that thing actually works, they are going to eat our lunch."

These are funny to read.. but I've got to be honest, I wasn't expecting the Wii to become this successful.. although I'm not being paid to be an expert analyst.

I love that so called april's fools joke topic

Yes, it's hilarious that a huge joke article on Gamespot ended up being a more accurate analysis than most "professional" analysts. Here's probably my favorite part of it.

"Remember, today's gamers grew up playing Mario Bros. and Zelda, some of the best games of all time. They're out there now as the industry's main consumers. The ability to play thousands of games, all priced in the five-dollar range, without leaving the house is very attractive. Gamers don't want to buy a PS3. They prefer a good system with nostalgia over a system with prettier graphics. Games are meant to be one thing--fun."

Games meaning to be fun apparently is a joke to Gamespot. =P

Wow. I hadn't heard of this April Fool's joke. That last line is fucking beautiful. What a great "joke." I guess I'm supposed to laugh because fun is the last thing I want out of my home media center/George Foreman Grill.

For your viewing pleasure! What looks to be pork chops!

A PREDICTION I DO BELIEVE

Lastly, I want to post an analysis and prediction that I personally do firmly believe in. BUT I warn you, it's going to upset a lot of people who feel differently.

"History will be very kind to the Wii. The Atari 2600 and NES reached a high echelon dwarfing following systems in terms of their culture shock, altering how society perceived video games, and defined their era. Just as most reviewers today are mostly from the ‘NES Generation’, most reviewers twenty years from now will be from the Wii Generation. They will grow up with motion controls and will write feature stories about the ‘glorious year of 2007’ when their parents bought them a Wii. In 2027, people will probably remember the PS3 as an Atari train wreck, the Xbox 360 as a hardware disaster (with no Xbox 360s working then unless specially modded), and the Wii for saving gaming as the NES did. Today, there are Atari fans who, after two decades, are still bitter about the NES success. Many game computer fans of the early 80s still believe the NES ‘destroyed gaming as we know it’. The funniest surprise await the PS3 and Xbox 360 stalwarts who despise Nintendo’s business moves as their blood pressure rises with any mention of ‘Blue Ocean’ or ‘New Market’. Twenty years from now, their children will be reading about the success of the Wii in all the business textbooks (as the NES is today)."

Nice read, thanks

Did any analyst see the wii explosion ?

Consoles LTD, end 2009, end 2010 - prediction

Wii -  68 million, 90 million - Wii HD in late 2011 - $249

360 - 38 million, 47 million - 720 in late 2010 - $299

PS3 - 31 million, 43 million - slim PS3 in mid 2009 - $299

Not really that I've seen, although a few analysts said they could not estimate Nintendo becasue it was so revolutionary. I think a lot of them got burned on the DS and were cautious with Nintendo. My thought was what the hell good are "expert" analysts if they can only play Captain Obvious

Anyone remember all the doom and gloomers on the iPod. For the first few years, people predicted Apple's eventual collapse in the music market. One could have constructed an equally impressive bingo board for the iPod.

Analysts and technophiles get too wrapped up in the technology and don't really look at the big picture. There is a world of people who just want something easy and fun to use and could care less about the underlying technology.

I'm begining to wonder in Malstrom is Will Wright incognito.

I figured this thread was going to lead into a link to that site >.> Ok so anyone know when that all was written?
