Forums - Sony - Reeves: Home was too ambitious.

I can't even imagine how it will change the way gamers interact online. I feel that everyone will be pleasantly suprised, but not excited...

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

i've said it before and i'll say it again. home is the biggest flop ever.

 wow...

I didn't know home was out yet!

which i guess strengthens my point. it was supposed to be out in october last year. it is the biggest delay ever and we all know that delays kill hype.

home was big back when 2ndlife was all over the news, but the hype is gone

"¿Por qué justo a mí tenía que tocarme ser yo?"

I don't care, most thing when people start out seem to ambitious but they do it else no progress will be made at all. whether it comes tomorrow or early next year, it will be a great addition to Sony's Playstation expereince.

Hmm, pie.

On the bright side, I was quite impressed by the transparency and honesty shown at Sonys Gamers Day by Hirai and Reeves. They need to improve on things, and apologized to the fans. It is much better from the arrogant and cocky stuff they said last year and trying to shove a $599 console in our faces.

Sony was being too ambitious with the non-gaming applications of Home and delayed the project to focus on gaming, SCEE president David Reeves has told CVG.

In a brief interview at the recent PlayStation Day event in London, Reeves admitted that Sony wants to make sure the gaming parts of the service, like trophies and Home-to-game launching, are ready before it goes public.

"It is definitely coming out in autumn," assured Reeves. "Whether that's October or November, I don't precisely know, but it is an open beta."

"We've realised that maybe we were too ambitious with the non-gaming applications within Home, getting sponsors and stuff like that," he went on to confess.

"In that sense we were deserting gamers. So, we're concentrating on the gaming by launching games in Home, and attracting people who are into gaming in first - instead of the Nike people, or Adidas people who are into fashion and not necessarily into gaming."

Reeves also spoke of the diminishing importance of platform exclusives from third parties, as first-party games become more prominent. "We did Buzz, we're doing LittleBigPlanet, Killzone, and there are obviously others that we're developing. We're becoming less dependent on third parties."

But, he added, Sony will seize exclusivity opportunities for games that attract new customers.
"It's got to be something that catches our eye and we think will bring new consumers into the industry. We can't keep recycling consumers from one iteration of PlayStation or Wii to another. We've got to gather up new people as we go through the years," he said.

 This is their way of saying grapes are sour.. and we lost big time.. and now when the developers are fast abandoning their ship they need to give a little statement to their buyers... that those were not important games... I m sure if PS3 had it would have been in much more healthy state..

where do you even find the confidence to post such garbage.

Yes! At last they admit it. Gamers first then add all the bling bling you want after. I am actually not excited about home if they don't concentrate on us gamers first.

"Yea, they should have just changed their name, remove the 3 and the link is gone"

Lol, I hope you realise that microsoft called it the 360 to present it as a competitor to the PS3, rather than calling it the Xbox2, which could have been seen as competition to the PS2

Since the dawn of the internet there have been highly customizable avatar based chat clients, and few have ever been nearly as enjoyable or successful as the simple text-based chat clients. Now, I think a problem Sony is facing (whether they know it or not) is a lot of people are expecting ‘Second Life taken to the next level’ and Playstation Home is ‘A graphically impressive chat client’ …

Now, if Sony is to be believed, Playstation Home began as a product for the PS2 years before the PS3 was released. If it has been in development for 4 years already, and was too ambitious, what is the likelihood that a couple of month delay will enable them to finish the project?
