The claim of rape, is because in some cultures, a guy could disown a wife if it appeared she has had sex with another guy. This of course is only based on if the hymen gets broken, which can break for various reasons.

So the reason for the rape claim, is probably because they won't be able to get their daughter married off, and now they will be stuck with taking care of her for the rest of her life.
