Both versions of the list are updated.

You should consider adding DKII's list of Virtual console sales to this. Mario Kart 64 has a rough million of sales there, and SMB and alikes are close to 1.5M.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Don't know what you think of this, but does The Sims 2 deserve to be on the list? It's approximately 13 million just on the PC version:

Of course, these are shipped numbers but given the age of the article could well be within range.

Good find.

There's nothing wrong with shipment numbers. Fear of shipments numbers is what keeps Wikipedia's list so crappy. And on a long enough timeline, shipment numbers will be more accurate than sales, especially for best-selling games which will have 100Ks or 1Ms of sales in smaller markets never tracked.

However, I don't think the press release indicates that is only PC sales. So The Sims 2 will be slotted in both lists at 13M total. Non-PC sales are listed on VGC at 2.71M, but are very imcomplete. So I'd guess they go up to about 4M+, and that PC sales are at least pushing 10M by now.

Wow, excellent list.

One problem... I haven't played them myself but weren't the console versions of The Sims entirely different to the original PC one?

And yeah, how about Virtual console sales.... SMB, SMB3, SMW, MK64 and a few others all have pretty huge VC sales, enough to impact the list.

The problem with MMOs is that many of them don't even sell on retail or even at digital distribution - they go straight to their business model(subscription, F2P, etc...) . One way I think to include MMOs and other subscription-based games in the best-sellers list is to make this rule:

- Subscription-based games' sales will be be counted from it's total lifetime subscriptions.
     - If the total lifetime subscriptions aren't available, the games' sales will be counted from total retail boxed sales.
          - If both above aren't available, count the games' sales from max known value of it's subscriptions.

Makes prefect sense, doesn't it?

By the way, Lineage 2 has sold over 14 millions copies on PC (or atleast 14 millions subscribers lifetime): http://www.plaync.com/us/games/l2/buy.html
