Damn, I was hoping it was a perma ban.

Ive been on this site for quite some time now, and Ive always found his posts about as old and played out as his namesake.

Get over yourself and the XBOX, it was outsold by a 100,000 units on this launch, and has before that been outsold by the PS3 by 800k+ units. WHile both systems have been outsold by some 10 million plus units by the Wii.

Its been outsold by the PS3 since October, its not going to change, get used to it.
So explain to me.  Why did you come into this thread again?

how do you know that 100k 360 buyers are ps2 owners?

but its more than posible that the near 100k MORE consoles sold on ps3 this week were ps2 owners!

either way no matter how you try to spin it, sony won this week. THE ONLY reason microsoft shifted more copies of the game is because they are in a temporary 6 million lead due to a year head start.

this will all change shortly early 2009 or mid 2009

Don't get me wrong.  I am sure that tonnes of those that bought PS3's this week are PS2 upgraders, but it is just as likely that 100k or more Xbox 360 owners were PS2 upgraders.

Here is the reasoning behind the 'Sony lost this week' argument for those that only came to bash me and couldn't be bothered actually reading the thread.

Before GTAIV:

Lets say the PS2 had 10 pieces of userbase, and the Xbox 360 and PS3 each had five.

So Microsoft has five customers, and Sony has 15.

After GTAIV:

Lets say (even though the ratio here is overly generous to Sony) that the PS2 loses one piece of userbase to the Xbox 360 and two pieces to the PS3.

Microsoft now has 6 pieces of userbase, and Sony now has 14 pieces of userbase.

So in the whole equation, Sony LOST customers (and future revenue) and Microsoft GAINED customers (and future revenue).

Edit: In reality of course, Nintendo would have taken even MORE PS2 userbase than both the PS3 and Xbox 360 meaning Sony lost by far more than this simple example demonstrates.

WRONG! Just because they bought an Xbox360 during GTAIV launch does not mean they won't buy a PS3 later.
Sure, I think the average person will buy at least 2 consoles, especially when 90% of the games are the same.

Sony has not lost any of its customers just yet to Microsoft, i'll agree that Sony lost its base to Nintendo though.
I'm pretty sure that a lot of PS2 costumers switched to 360. Especially the "softcore" Madden/Need for Speed etc. players. It's hilarious to assume no PS2 owner has bought a 360.

For all you know, those 100k people who bought an xbox360 were possibly xbox owners? Just remember that all 3 GTA did make it to the xbox as well, so its not just a SONY game ok. Sure it lost some, but to claim all 100k or even the majority of them were PS2 people is just a major assumption, that to me, means nothing!
Microsoft secured the most important PlayStation franchise and it did pay off, just get over it. It's quite obvious that the majority of people that buy GTA IV with a console in the first week are big fans of the franchise. The big fans of the franchise owned a PS2 last gen.

got to go now, getting yelled at here lol

lol, this thread is hilarious.
Because it's such an unfair battle I thought I'd help you out, starcraft.

Thanks

-here you go again, there isnt any indication or proof that they were ps2 upgraders for both the ps3 or the x360.

-but its also a posibility that xbox owenrs went out and bought a ps3 thus its a loss for m$ and a gain for sony...gasp!!! imagine that!!! (of course, like you, i just pulled that crap out of my ass)

Edit: In reality of course, Nintendo would have taken even MORE PS2 userbase than both the PS3 and Xbox 360 meaning Sony lost by far more than this simple example demonstrates.

- again, no indication what so ever to substantiate these calaims of yours. for all we know these are pc gamer converts (hahahaha!!! again, i pulled that out of my ass!)

If the game sold 17million copies on the PS2 and yet it sells 3.3million Xbox360 and 2.6million PS3 (Not exact) then it can be expected that a lot of the people who bought it on the Xbox360 had a PS2 last generation. Most people only have one console remember?

Tease.

This thread can end world hunger! But who cares about that.

Other than that, there are a lot of facts you're not facing here. 360 is in deep sh*t right now. Exclusives is all that'll save this not an exclusive DLC of a multi plat game.

I'm going to rate this thread:

2/10.

For a 'starcraft' thread, that's rather low.

Normally his thread would get a 5/10.

But there's just not enough logic in here. All 360 buyers are PS2 upgraders... maybe, and maybe not. There's no evidence to prove either way.

Off-topic:

I love how the general consensus has changed over the course of a few months. Before, it was accepted as truth that GTA IV would sell more XBOX 360s and outsell PS3 software wise, and as the launch neared and news came out that things weren't looking so rosy for 360 hardware, and that PS3 software would probably be higher than 360 in others, it switched to 'stealing PS2 userbase'. But I digress, what would I do if the console of my choice didn't do as well as expected?

If you had read my OP or subsequent posts, you would know that the bolded does not in anyway represent my opinionP

As for the last bit?  You realize that the accepted wisdom (even from Xbox 360 fanboys) at large was that the PS3 would get a better hardware boost from GTAIV from the beginning right?

Actually, whats surprising is first of all that both HD consoles got a smaller than expected boost, that the Xbox 360 didn't do as well SW wise compared to the PS3 as was expected, but that it did BETTER than in expected HW wise (once again, relatively, as both consoles achieved a smaller boost than I had hoped).

Now that I think about it, the Wii needs to fall back a bit.  I really don't want one overly dominant console this generation.

Xbox360 > Xbox? of course it will outsell it, due to people buying a 2nd 360 cause of the RROD.

Will PS3 reach 120million? Obviously it won't, cause PS3 failure rates is much lower than that of PS2.

Sorry but you're thread

*cough* 3 year warranty *cough*

*cough* lack of logic *cough*
