Where are all the PS3 fans who claim having Blu-ray built in for movies makes the PS3 a better value? Now that the 360 would have Blu-ray built in for playing movies suddenly it has no value. |
i think you are running away with yourself mate. blu ray to be honest is only important with films when you have a huge tv period. But when it comes to games the blu ray is very important. all people are stating is that microsoft can not be possibly be puting blu ray in for games because that would spite the other 360 owners. they are just stating that there is no point in putting blu ray in for just movies because the price will be to much for so little gain. and soon blu ray platers are going to be farly cheap compared to consoles |
I agree with your bolded statement above. I'm just pointing out that over the last few weeks there have been several PS3 fans explaining how being able to play Blu-ray movies on the PS3 was a selling feature for the PS3. Now that the possibility exists that the 360 will have the ability to play Blu-ray movies all I'm hearing is "no point in putting blu ray in for just movies". Considering how few PS3 games really take advantage of the extra space provided, I don't accept the argument that the games gain that much benefit.
This doesn't surprise me, however, considering that Blu-ray movies on the PS3 wasn't a primary selling feature... it was just a way for PS3 fans to try and justify the high price they paid for a PS3 as a game console.
As far as standalone Blu-ray players soon being fairly cheap compared to consoles, my question is when? I can't find one at Best Buy for less than $400, and most cost more than that. I believe Sony has too much influence in the Blu-ray industry and is going to continue to push to keep the standalone prices high as a way to encourage adoption of the PS3 (considering it's currently the same price as the low end players).
