You are hilarious! Keep it coming!

Lost my faith in VGChartz. Too many stupid and ignorant Americans, even as moderators.

It's a shame, really. "The Boss" should do something radical about this Americanization, but it seems hardly feasible, so my days here are numbered.

both the PS3 and Wii will last 10 years, PS4 and Wii 2 wont be out till 2012/2013, 360 will last 8 years, next xbox will be out in 2010/2011.

good luck

you really think that in just 3 years the ps4 will be out?

come on the ps2 hasnt even died yet and probly wont till next year.....

the ps3 was shown 2 years nefore it was relssed so acording too you next year we will be shown a ps4........come on go back under a rock pleasse.......

2011 is too early i'd agree.  I just threw it out there.  But 2012 is a perfect time and the 6 year gap between consoles is the same for PS2-PS3.

Think of it this way by the time 2012-2013 comes around MS and Nintendo will have their successors out.  The MS console will be superior technically to the PS3 for sure and the Nintendo console will at least be close to the PS3 level if not beyond it as well.

At that point the PS3 can't compete with the MS console as far as graphical powerhouses go and the Nintendo successor will look as good but probably have the next evolution of the wiimote whereas the PS3 will still be using the sixaxis/dualshock.  So it's a moot point to say that Sony can adopt Nintendo's strategy of ignoring graphics race as Nintendo did so by utilizing different control schemes which the PS3 won't be able to.  It won't compete for the high-end graphics crowd or the casual crowd.  Not releasing the PS4 by 2013 at the latest would be a huge mistake as the next generation would be all but surrendered at that point.

Knowing the way Sony is and has been dragging things out, PS3 has a good chance of lasting at least 10 years.

Look at Playstation. There was the original gray box, then came the PSOne with had a few upgrades to keep it selling a bit longer. I don't know what the specific upgrades were (besides like an add-on screen), but they helped.

The Playstation 2 transitioned to the PSTwo Slim, which has kept it going on pretty long, lasting up to even now (8 years). When will it finally die? It's good to know that it can even last this long.

The Playstation Portable was phat, then lost some weight, making the PSP-2000. This SlimLite transformation has, and will, keep it living for a while. Especially since it's part of the Portable Industry.

The PS3 is part of the HD generation, the time when people are becoming accustomed and comfortable with near-perfect graphics and media capabilities. Not to mention that Blu-Ray is helping the HD cause. People can feel "settled" now that things are becoming so powerful (processing/technology wise), and we can't find much more room for improvement... for a while. And as if this wasn't enough to help the PS3, like its previous brethren, Sony will release an upgraded PS3 (slimness, slightly more power, etc.) that will make people extremely comfortable and satisfied with buying it in the HD era.
I won't even get started about the 8th console generation, because I'd get too confused. And I also believe that the PS3 can live at least 10 years because it's already past this generation, keeping it alive until other, newer consoles catch up (by the time the "Wii2" or "X-Box720" come out, they'll probably be as strong as the PSThreePointFive Slim Thingy). Remember? Us PS3 owners don't have shit for games (yet) because most, if not all the developers say things such as "the PS3 is too hard to develop for, as the Cell is too complex and advanced." Obviously this means the full capacity of the PS3 hasn't been tapped yet, and with its very limited power so far it's going to last well more than 2 years. So how long could it last when all of its processing power is utilized and developers can make super-games? Time will tell.

Sony's gonna keep kicking ass. Especially with the PS3-HDMI-BRAVIA combo. *Orgasm*

Sony will prevail. My 60 gig says so.

PlayStation 3 Games:

- Rock Band
- Rock Band 2
- Soulcalibur IV
- LittleBigPlanet
- Guitar Hero: World Tour

This will force Sony/Nintendo to also put out new systems within at least 1yr of the neXtBox. So, I expect 2012 to be when all three have new systems.

360 will have a quick death of <1yr after the neXtBox.
PS3 will be like the Gamecube and slowly die off over the next 2yrs.

Exactly.

Xbox 3 released in Oct 2011

PS4 release in Oct 2012

the PS3 will be dead 2014.

Conclusion: Ps3 lifespan maximum 8 years (which is not bad at all)

Sony has changed their attitude alot since Krazy Ken left the party. Some of the lower people will be more arrogant, but they probably don't want to say as many bad things about their company in fear of getting canned.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

But what could Sony do? Bust out a ps4 that's even more powerful than the ps3, and thus has even higher dev costs?

The only thing I could see Sony doing is releasing a slightly more power system in a 4-5 years that focuses more on extra features than powerful hardware. It would have a hardware layout similar to the ps3's, and development would be rather easy for anyone well versed in the ps3's hardware (much like the transition from GC development to Wii development).

But I personally think that the ps3 will be around for quite some time. The thing was essentially built to be the media center to take over the living room

Well that was the plan.  I'm fairly certain they said this gen was about pushing tech and next gen was going to be about innovation. So Sony should have something crazy for us come PS4.

I dont think if Ms released a new console that it would force nintendo and sony to do the same. Sony n Nintendo didnt care that the Ms released the 360 a year early, no one cared when the dream cast jumped the next gen gun and came out early. in actual fact very few people cared for the dream cast and it droped out all together. if Ms releases a console before the generation has run its course then it will plonk just the same. people will be like "well this is what I can get now, or I can wait a few more years and get something better for the same price if not cheaper" I would say we can expect a longer generation this time around. Its being very drawn out because it has alot to offer and it doesnt seem like its going to dry up in the next 4 or so years.

All the companies seem to have settled down for the long run, theres no "think quick" stratergies like there was at the beginning of the last gen and no ones like "give me the next gen now" like we were last gen

its all very settled and every one is playing very strongly with their best cards at the moment

If at first you don't succeed, you fail
