Forums - Nintendo - Wiimote usage possibility

I have recently come upon an idea for a game that really utilizes the Wiimote and nunchuck.  OK, here goes:  A first person game featuring - two arms, of someone or thing.  Wiimote controls one arm, the nunchuck the other.  The Z and B buttons, when used, close  and open their respective hands on the persons arm.  Obviously, twisting either controller will twist the arms and hands (palm up or down, in other words)  And with those arms and hands, you can grasp just about anything.  Sledgehammers, boulders, swords, cow udders.  You can pick a flower, climb a cliff, actually open a door however you like, strangle (if you're into that).  I mean, the possibilites are endless.  Granted, that might take a rather good engine or two, but that can't be too hard, right?

This sounds incredibly fun, yes?

How would you move? That seems to call for 1:1 motion and the wiimote can't do that. Maybe next gen.

I believe you are underestimating the difficulty in motion recognition for such an extensive amount of possibilities. Is it possible? Probably. Is it going to happen? it might. Is it easy? Nope.

But this is a great idea one that many people have had I am sure. Keep up the good work. ^_^

You'd move with the analog stick silly.

That would be kinda difficult though. you use the nunchuck as a hand while you are moving?

This is an interesting idea. However, it seems like a very expensive proposition for a development team to undertake, to be able to produce not only good motion controls, but also a good story. Perhaps during the next generation of consoles. But it is a fun idea.

You would also look down and up by moving both of them. Annoying, but its the only thing I could think of. Yeah, a good, good story would be a must. But, mabye a few years down the road, an experienced Wii developer might be able to pull it off, although it would be expensive, no way around that.  I guess it depends on how good the Wiimote actually is.

if you had the balance board from wii fit you can do that fake walking on it to move your character! then to pick stuff up or what ever just lean over or crouch and the character will do the same, to look around corners you can lean to the side, to rotate you could use the analoge stick or something. Its not impossible, alot of actions and programing involved and it would require you to get up off your chair and alot of people wouldnt like that but thats not to say it isnt possible.

in regards to a 1:1 motion capture this is my opinion
Wii boxing works on the rotation of the remotes to regonise where your hands are. As you move your hand up naturaly the wii remote tilts upwards and so the game moves the characters hands with the tilt of the remote but us users are thinking its capturing our relative movement. As the remote finds its neutral position based on gravity it will also be able to regnise a foward and back movement, or side to side movement no matter what position the remote is in. You will notice in Wii base ball that you can wiggle the remote around while waiting to make a swing and your mii will riggle his bat exactly the same

In wii play you can jump your cow in cow racing by popping the wii remote up even while your accelerating, stoped or turning, so the remote can detect up and down movements at any angle.

All this can be done without the pointer device as the games that use these techniques have allready been made and dont need the remotes to actively work with the TV. It would be a simulated 1:1 motion that makes the user think its capturing their every movement.

But if you wanted you can use two wii remotes and use the IR sensors and everything can be done through the pointers. Then you have a much simpler and perfect 1:1 motion/pointer set up like the fishing game in wii play but all I'm saying is that with a bit of thought its possible with the nunchuck combination and easily possible if you duel your wii remotes.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

I don't think it would be too difficult. You could only need to use it for fowards, backwards and rotation. There will be no obstacles to require looking up or down and no strafing. If a developer put their mind to it, I think it would work well. Didin't Metroid Prime 3 have a door opening mechanic where you actually reached out and twisted the lever to open doors?

By the way, to the OP, great idea. I especially love the choking aspect. Maybe they can let you character create a villian and I can make my wife. Every time she nags me about the dishes I can take my frustrations out on her virtual ass.

Yeah it did , but you didn't have to move while you were opening the door. let's say you have to move your hands while you move in this game. That would be moving the nunchuk while your moving the analog. It would only work for certain games where you don't have to be active while you are moving.
